Cold crashing / secondary fridge advice

Larder fridge is good I have two, both purchased used, £50 was the most i paid a few years ago. One will go to zero the other won’t get much below 4. Shelves can be height positioned to accommodate 30 litre and 60 litre speidel HDPE fermentors. I have cut plywood shelves to use rather than the glass...

Stockport’s my home town [emoji3]

Do you know what the fermentation vessels were? We all know about Yorkshire squares, what were other breweries using? Keep up the good work [emoji481]

Re: Brewjacket

This looks like a good candidate for DIY! A fan, a heatsink and a metal rod? Not sure what the metal rod is made out of, guessing aluminium, but I shouldn’t think more than about £50 for the bits and a couple of hours of time to build?

Re: southern water report

for interest, a sample done 13 months ago with southampton water (mg/L): calcium 115 alkalinity 230 chloride 20,6 sulphate 14,2 pH 7,1 but the alkalinity has varied around 40ppm and the pH has varied too at various points of the year so to rely on one datapoint or "what works for someone else" woul...

Re: southern water report

I brew in Hampshire. Had water tested in 2012 and I would say that the numbers are reasonably accurate apart from Alkalinity which you should try to test each brewday, currently is measuring at 240ppm CaCO3 following Campden treatment. My balanced profile for darker beers aims for 100ppm CaCO3 and s...

Re: My New Single Vessel Brewery

Damn. I'm now thinking that I have a bit of a design flaw. The grain became quite compact near the end of the mash. Is this down to not having a malt pipe? Will my plan to make two more holes make a difference with overflow/grain compacting? Any advice welcome! Damn... knew this was too good to be ...

Nice and neat. When viewed on a phone using Tapatalk the photos are oriented correctly, but in the forum webpages they are not!

Low Pressure Regulator advice

if you want to use as a cask breather though you'll want the fixed 37mbar one That’s interesting and a cheap solution, so all you need to do is set the secondary reg at a pressure higher than 0.037 bar? Set and forget? Ah I see, does this need a beer engine as the pump, I take it 37mbar won’t push ...

Weight of a single Campden Tablet

I have just checked the individual weight of Wilko's Camden tablets and they weigh between 0.73 and 0.76 grams. So that is 50% more than has been suggested. The scales I used are accurate to two decimal places. There’s always someone to throw the car amongst the pidgins! I like the scientific appro...

Re: Weight of a single Campden Tablet

Any one know the weight of a single Campden Tablet? I have the powder and could do with knowing how much I need to treat brew water.
