Re: Fermentation Fridge Heater... I'm done with Tube Heaters!

Last time this problem came up with me. I was given the suggestion of using pipe trace heating wire. Could see an easy way of sourcing one.
But recent diy of a bathroom had me looking at under floor beast pads as an option to look into.
Hopefully someone with better knowledge will be along.

Re: Can induction heat through insulation?

Thanks for differing ideas. I'm not totally confidant with the controller. It measures a few temps high. Not a major problem, but found the first few years brews were over mashed temp. Also the c 14 plugs get too hot. I've had to replace one plug so far. What options are there for alternative contro...

Re: Can induction heat through insulation?

Thanks for everyone's advice. Something to think about. Just need to find a magnet. The controller is a pico ed2bd controller that came with the pot, from grain and grape. Issue for me is after mash I leave the lid on until boiling. Once rolling boil I lift lid to pitch hops and leave it ajar. Rolli...

Can induction heat through insulation?

Hi all, Looking at options of getting extra heat into my 40lt hlt/biab pot. It has about 1/2" thick insulated mat covering base and sides. Hold mash temp great. But the boil is crap. Uses an alleged 2.5kw element that the controller will let boil for 15-20 min then goes to simmer mode. Can I use a i...

Don't disagree. I had a look at prices. The cheapest are round £50 so its not a great solution.

Re: Solar Pump to solve a problem?

Would a scissor lift help. Brew and lift grain pipe. Then activate scissor lift to raise brew to above conical. Depends if you can spare a few inches to insert the scissor lift.

Re: Cornelius Keg Cons?

Oh just remembered. An issue you rarely hear about. Loosing a whole cylinder of co2 with a leaky keg/connector. This can also cause a large pool of beer on the floor which is always a surprise to find. I use a beer line chiller as I bought it cheap off eBay and never had the space for a beer fridge/...

Re: Cornelius Keg Cons?

I went over to Cornelius kegs about 5 years ago. Cost for the gas regulators and lines adds up. Kegs you can acquire slowly at reasonable cost if buying second hand. They will take up as much spare space you have! I do get a bit bored having to drink the same beer before starting a new keg. I now bo...

Re: Tube heater not working (mostly?)

My fermentation fridge runs off a stc1000. The fridge and tube heater are controlled by the etc. This time the heater didn't work from the get go.
I'm going to get a new tube heater. I would like to find out what is wrong so I can keep the old one as a spare.
Thanks.

Tube heater not working (mostly?)

Hi all, My tube heater in my fermentation fridge stops working intermittently. Some times it works for most of a brew. When it has stopped I've taken it apart to see if anything is broken. Found nothing broken and had resistance through the piece which would start heating up when plugged in. All con...

Re: Cellar gas availability in lockdown

Discovered last night that my had was empty! Another bloody leaky cornie. Was worried about getting more gas. But called my usual supplier "woodlands Yorkshire" in Thirsk. No info on there website. Called expecting a message. Blow me bloke answers, yes were still open but reduced times. Monday to Fr...

Re: Corny carbonation problems

Not sure I can help much. I usually find I get the dispensing pressure right at the end of the barrel.
But have you been purging the keg to lower the pressure. I would keep doing this with the gas turned off. It will take some time to lower the dissolved gas.

Here is a quick pic of my press frame. I find the processing of the apples takes the most time.

Re: Press builds

Last year I made a wooden press that used a 10ton hydraulic jack. Also converted a kitchen waste disposal unit for my grinder. Managed to make 15 gallons in one long day. Don't worry about the size of jack. If you push to hard it bursts the cheese cloth the pommace is wrapped in. I tried to make eve...
