As an example with co2 I would normally force carbonate at around 20psi for around a week and then release excess pressure then serve at around 6psi.

Smells great, and works great... Every now and again where the dip is in the pipe I pour away the condensate. No steam at all in shed even with door closed unless I remove the lid. I know you do a cracking stout from kits, and probably other types too!
I've got fond memories of brewing from kits but was never over excited by them 30+ years ago, glad to hear they're better nowadays!
