BIAB No.10 Seaside Blonde

this was From Friday evening- An impromptu brew evening after work, thought about doing an overnight mash then realised I could brew tonight leaving tomorrow free for the play off semi final 1st leg :D The recipe is a cobbled together English blonde ale with a variety of hops I had in the freezer. Re: Drunken Traveller

I wash using empty 5 litre mineral water bottles, sterilised of course, then empty jars to store it in, I got 4 from my last wash but could have got several more. I decant the trub into an empty bottle with some of the mineral water, give it a shake, let it settle for 15-20 minutes, pour off the top...

Re: Drunken Traveller

Looks good Dev, are you looking to wash/harvest the yeast, if so would you consider a swap as I quite fancy brewing a Kolsch at some point?
I have some washed WLP500 I could send in return, if I can find some sort of suitable container.

Re: Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'

My apologies I was mixing my issues! I have just discovered that I have been making an error in my process with regard to trasnferring the hot wort, however my fermentations (recent ones) have been healthy so hopefully I've headed that off. The apple taste I think is down to the yeast as that half b...

Re: Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'

Thanks for that, I must admit I am wary of oxidisation when racking/bottling but I have left myself open to hot side aeration, which I think I must have read about and completely forgotten! I have had a second further report on the beer from someone I fore warned about the possible off tastes, he co...

Re: Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'

Haha cheers, I didn't even notice! Temperature control is rudimentary but seems to work ok, it was in a room in the house with a reasonably constant temperature in winter/spring of 18' then I moved it to warmer room for a few days before cooling in the garage on a concrete floor. It may have been th...

Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I did search but couldn't see it anywhere. I have been sampling a Patersbiere that has been bottled for about 6 weeks, I used WLP500 (Belgian Monastery) in it and it was my first use of liquid yeast. It seems to have taken a long time to clear and when I ...

BIAB no.8 Hopping Mad bitter

This started out as an attempt on a Hopping Hare clone, but I tinkered with it a little and saw somewhere that they use chocolate malt for colour so it is probably not going to be anything like it, hopefully still good though. Recipe 3kg pale malt 85.7% .3kg Pale wheat malt 8.7% .1kg Caramunich 2.9%...

Golden Mile summer ale

Got an unplanned...ish brew on today- Hi I'd be grateful if you guys could look this over and see what you think, it's quite hoppy which is why I've added some crystal malt to add a little sweetness to balance it out, not sure of a mash temperature though? Re: Sediment ??

I always cold crash before bottling either in a secondary or just in the primary, I bring it back up to room temperature before bottling and only usually end up with a slight sediment in the bottle, dependent on which yeast you're using it may disperse in the beer if disturbed although some stick to...

Re: Karmaleit tripel recipe help requested.

Yeah I was thinking of a simple 'Paters biere' with just some Pilsner and wheat malt aiming for about 4%.

Re: Karmaleit tripel recipe help requested.

Thanks darth and JMC, yep you're right taste is the most important thing!
I will probably give this a go in the New Year after I've brewed a small beer to pitch it onto the yeast cake, I'll post back how it goes, thanks for the replies.

Re: Karmaleit tripel recipe help requested.

Thanks Darth, the colour of the finished product looks a little dark for a tripel though that could be the lighting, the spice additions was what I was thinking of though your proportion of oats and wheat look high, how did it affect the final product and would you change anything for your next atte...

Thanks for flagging that up to me, do you know how accurate their recipes are as I've never used one before?
