Open a little colder than you like.
Just cracked one open, a little prematurely perhaps, the carbonation is spot on, needs a little more conditioning time, which i kind of expected. Thanks for your help.

Oh well, it's done now, went for 90g. I reckon it'll be fine.

Batch priming - how much sugar?

Afternoon all, i usually keg all my beers and it's been a while since i've bottled an entire batch, however with my latest brew i'll be bottling as i intend to give quite a few away as Christmas gifts to friends and family. Since it's been so long i can't remember how much sugar i should be using, o...

Dry hopping with pellets.

Hi all, i'm looking to swapping over to pellets for my dry hopping, is it better to contain them or just chuck them loose into the fermenter? I won't be re-using the yeast slurry so that's of no concern, but having not used pellets to any great extent before i'm unsure as to whether they float or si...

I tend to raise the temp after 5 days to make sure it clears up. The sulfur smell is normal. You know you're making proper lager when you smell it!
Thank you,very reassuring :D

Recommend me decent immersion chiller

I'm thinking of upgrading my immersion chiller in the new year, i want to stick with immersion as it's what i'm used to and i think it works best with my set up, so what's considered top dog these days?

Thanks.

Re: First lager, need a few pointers

Okay then, i got this brewed the other day and apart from being a couple of gravity points out all went well and a happy fermentation is taking place, however when i open the door to the brew fridge there is an unmissable sulphur smell, now i'm sure i've read that this isn't that unusual so i'm not ...

Re: First lager, need a few pointers

Hi, I would cool to fermentation temperature before pitching. I've found that 2 packets of yeast are just fine for 25 litres. How big is your batch? I don't carbonate before lagering, instead doing it in a fermentation bin in the freezer. Yeah I wasn't going to carbonate, just purge the air out wit...

Sierra Nevada pale ale recipe

Hi all, what is the go to SNPA recipe these days? There are literally hundreds out there, would like a tried and tested one if possible.

Thanks.

First lager, need a few pointers

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted up, still been brewing though. This winter I'm going to have a crack at a lager, no problems with most of the process but a couple around fermentation and conditioning. Right, so after the boil and I'm chilling, with all the will in the world I doubt I'll get...

Re: Acetaldehyde - Apple Off-Flavours

Every time i have suffered from acetaldehyde in a beer it has been when i have used US05 as well, i don't know if this yeast is more susceptible to it than others but it was one of the reasons i stopped using it, could just be a coincidence though.

Re: Acetaldehyde - Apple Off-Flavours

If memory serves me correctly acetaldehyde can form when the beer is mixed with oxygen, this can happen if there is excessive splashing when you keg the beer and i've had it happen a couple of times to me. What i do now is to purge the keg with CO2 before the beer goes in, CO2 is heavier than air an...

Re: Windsor stopped at 1.022

I think the advice you've been given here is most likely top notch, but seeing as i have a brew going at the moment that i brewed with Windsor as well i'll post up what's happening with mine. It's a SMASH so the grist was 100% pale ale malt, mashed at 64 degC and the yeast was hydrated exactly as th...
