Keezer build enroute. I don't have the room for a large chest freezer, so I'm hoping that an 800 wide will be able to fit 4 AEBs. Any recommendations or brands to avoid?

Just what is "light Crystal" 25SRM/50EBC?
Recipe for Palmer Dorset Pale call for Light Crystal. It's an NZ recipe, so quotes all Gladfields malts, but I've seen this needed elsewhere as well; • 112g GLADFIELD LIGHT CRYSTAL MALT 27.4 SRM Extra Light Crystal from the various sheds is typically quoted at 50 SRM / 100EBC.... so what's my altern...

Cheers all
Point taken on the "Known/unknown" supplier bit.
PeeBee - I guess I was just transferring my years of sport diving into my brewing world - checking gauges for contents was just part and parcel of not dying, so becomes a bit OCD. Point taken though!

Stainless vs brass for CO2 system?
What's the difference in getting a stainless reg vs a brass one (from China)? With the rest of the brewing gear I'm OK with what's best where, but I'm new to kegging and am working back from the keg. Post keg will be stainless as it's on contact with the beer. I know I need pressure control rather t...

My Lactic has concentrated up!
Got some lactic acid some time ago with a view to doing a kettle sour. Left in the fridge in a sealed plastic bottle, but as we all know they aren't "sealed".... and now I have about 1/4 of the volume. Can I just dilute back or is it bin time? I planned to use it via the "dose a sample and scale" me...

Re: Dry yeast for Kolsch
+1 for CML - used it twice and each came out really well. Fermented at 16degC for 10 days, an 18deg DAR for 2 days then down to 4 deg for 2 weeks. Did a bit of a vanishing trick over last summer once the neighbours discovered it!! Not sure about the US Pale yeast - had similar interesting flavours a...

Re: Hot side aeration
The Brulosophy experiment below might be woth a look; basically he whisked f#@k out of the wort at every stage vs a control where he was careful and there was no detectable difference (5 gal batch). I also seem to remember the wisdom being that its another one of those "maybe important" things in th...

Re: Elements for 50l kettle - before I buy!
Angel Homebrew and Homebrewbuilder have just confirmed hat all their kettle elements are nickel plated on the boss and come from Peco. I've read really mixed reviews about the Santon elements from brilliant to failing after 2 brews. https://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=63507&p=667...

Re: Elements for 50l kettle - before I buy!
Cheers all,
FWIW, both Get Er Brewed and The Home Brew shop confirmed that their elements are from Peco, so HLT only. The ebay/Maltmiller ones are a bit rich for my pocket but look good. Just waiting on confirmation from Mr Lard at Brewbuilder about where he gets his from - hopefully not Peco!!

Re: Elements for 50l kettle - before I buy!
I suspect the "nickel plating" of the boss is relatively recent, so older units will be fine. Not sure how they continue to sell the plastic kettles without issues though..... Waiting for answers from 2 Irish sheds as to what theirs are made of. Still looking for 2 x 2.4kw if anyone's got any ideas?...

Re: Elements for 50l kettle - before I buy!
Just received the following from Peco; Hello Pat Thank you for getting in touch. Our elements have a stainless steel heating tube but the back plate (the threaded part that holds the element in place) is nickel plated copper. The cost of producing these with a plate turned from stainless is prohibit...

Elements for 50l kettle - before I buy!
Just a quick check before I hit "buy".... 50 litre kettle which will be heated via 2 peco electrim 2.4kw elements. I plan to run the elements in parallel from a single 40a ssr and PID. This way I figure that each element will do about half the work (according to their individual impedences) and so I...

Out of date yeast!!?
Brew day tomorrow - Seymour's Rakau Pale (or a version thereof!). Planning to use Danstar Windsor from dry, rehydrated, but then noticed the BBE date of 2017.... Panic or go ahead anyway. Alternatives are CML US West Coast or Nottingham (not even considering my Belgians....!)

GreyTrees Afghan Pale Ale
Had a drop of this the other day and can see why its a champion beer - so purely as a homage (honest!), anyone got an AG recipe for this? I know that it's enough MO for 5.4%, Simcoe, Cascade and Citra hops and a US west coast yeast (MJ44 is my go-to). I'm assuming 67-68 degC for a nice full body, bu...

Ok, so are we saying that it only takes out visible material, but leaves enough active yeast to carb up?
