Cleaning lines?

I've recently built myself a 2 keg kegerator, and am currently drinking beer from one of the kegs (not made anything to put in the other one yet). I was wondering what people do to clean their lines, and where you buy your cleaning products from. Thanks in advance.

Re: Low DO Brewing

I've tried this (to the extent that my system allows), and you definitely end up with lighter wort at the end of things. I used a grainfather, and tried to minimise the sparging process, but still used my copper CF chiller, and used bakers yeast and a little dextrose to remove the oxygen from the ma...

Re: GF and grain crush

Hi all, a question for GF owners, bought a 3 roller malt mill and did my first crush at 1.1ml gap, all through the sparge it was just cascading down the overflow tube for the whole duration of mash, at end of sparge the top plate was about 2" above the grain bed and covered in flour, ended up very ...

Re: Can I improve my yeast starter?

I typically make 20L batches, and follow the Shaken not Stirred method for making starters. I'll use a 1L starter prepared the previous day for any batch up to 1.055, and a 2L starter for anything over, pitching the full volume into the wort at high krausen. I generally build the starters 0.5L bigge...

Russell
I bought silicone hoses off Ebay. If I remember right, the chiller hose is 8mm inside diameter, and the recirc pipe is 10mm ID.

Re: Chevallier Malt

I've not used it myself, but there is a commercial brewery in Cheshire which uses it in one of it's beers. Off the top of my head, I can't remember which though.

Re: belgian dubbel yeast recomendations

WLP530 (Westmalle) is my favourite yeast for abbey styles. I like WLP540 too, but it can be finicky in comparison with WLP530.

Re: Hop Aroma

Just found this: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/rec.crafts.brewing/W56OhTk8joM Does not shed much light, but people seem to be saying there could be off flavours caused In my experience (one batch), it didn't cause any off flavours. I did read something along these lines, but not until I...

Re: Thinking about a Grainfather or similar

So does the new grainfather not have two elements now, is there other changes? As far as I'm aware, they're still using the old design for the actual body of the machine, it's only the controller that's altered. I imagine that in a few months, when they've cleared the current stock, they'll ditch t...

Re: Wild yeast infections (probably)

I'm not sure that what you are describing is a wild yeast infection. I had one once, and the taste is very distinctive (although of course this could vary); burnt rubber, medicinal, very phenolic. It sounds to me more like a mash pH or even oxidation issue, or perhaps something bacterial. It also s...

Re: Thinking about a Grainfather or similar

Would be interesting to know for sure what pump is used on the ace 30l, The one with it in the base. I thought I had read somewhere that the grainfather and Ace used the same pump not 100% sure. Is there any ace owners who could pop the bottom off there system and see what it says on the pump data ...

Re: Hop Aroma

Seems like you're on your way. Good luck! Just a minor point - alpha acid is a measure of the bittering potential, and is almost completely disconnected from aroma/flavour. For example Warrior is high alpha, but very neutral flavour; Ahtanum is the opposite. I agree with all of Padalacs comments as...

Re: Hop Aroma

Some interesting new ideas here - thanks to one and all! Padalac - I have tried cold crashing first and then bringing back to temp with decent, but not mind-blowing, results in the past. I don't know why I didn't try this again this time but it's on the list again for the future. Sladeywadey - whil...

Re: Grainfather options

I have the new control box - I think it is worthy of the extra dosh as it does open more options for brewing. They are currently having issues with the Android app but the Apple version works fine apparently. Very useful. Be warned if you have an older Apple device, it uses Bluetooth v4.1, so won't...

Re: Hop Aroma

You could try a teaspoon of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in your priming solution. I've only done this once, but it prolonged the hop aroma of a NE IPA I made. I forgot to add it in the following batch I made, and the hop aroma faded a good deal quicker.
