Thanks for the info. Sometime I do experience an air lock but the 12v pumps cope ok with this and chug through it. I'll test again with your suggestions.

pump issues
I have two 12v pumps which i bought from bridgwater brewing https://www.bridgewaterbrewing.co.uk/store/p16/Homebrew_pump_12v.html and they have served me well. Having watched the larger 240V pumnps at kegkingdom i decided to splash out. https://www.kegkingdom.co.uk/collections/pumps/products/brew-pu...

Re: inconsistent bottle conditioning with large batches
Thank you all and as always some great tips/ experiences shared. I'm going to try the stirring (gently) method and adding the solution on the top. Thanks for the plastic bottle and marking the first 10 and last 10 bottles from the batch suggestions. I'll introduce these into my regime and see how we...

inconsistent bottle conditioning with large batches
I brew with a number of friends and we have increased our brew length to 75Ltr. we predominantly bottle as we have yet to invest in kegs. At 20 -25lts batches we would make a sugar solution, put that into a bottling bucket and then siphon from the fermentor into the bucket. The gentle swirling of th...

Re: storing and conditioning beer
Thank you all for your responses. My main need is to free up my fermenters with my plan to bottle some of it and then to keg some, bag in a box some and eventually start putting into pins or firkins. Cost is the main reason why i have not jumped for cornies, pins or firkins. I am planning on taking ...

storing and conditioning beer
I have started brewing 75ltr and 100ltr brews and i am at the point where i want to store the fermented beer before putting in the final vessel for dispensing. I believe breweries use large bright tanks or something along those lines. would these do the trick? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Quality-P...

Hot water supply to HLT
I'm working on setting up a 100Ltr 3 vessel setup and while setting them up with my dad's help, he asked why i am not taking the water feed for HLT from the Hot water system (Combi/condesner boiler) to save having to heat the volume of water i am going to need. I tried to explain that it is simply n...

Re: Missing gravity targets on Grainfather
At the time i answered yes i did hit my volumes as i was taking 23ltr to be the volume in the fermentor and not in the boiling pot after boil. That was my oversight and lesson. I now have two profiles in beersmith. One for my intended brews of 25 ltr and one for 23ltr as i like to try some of the ki...

Re: Missing gravity targets on Grainfather
I think i may have worked this out. I use Beersmith to work out my mash volumes and sparge volumes as well as the OG i am aiming for. Last night a brewed a simple pale ale which has 4.5kg Pale Malt. Beersmith has worked out a Mash volume of 15.6l. during the Mash my kids decided to help me and i los...

Re: grainfather pump filter upgrade
Is it a true upgrade to the original one? I have only had one brew that has blocked the smaller filter so i'm not yet making the jump for it.

Re: Missing gravity targets on Grainfather
The last kit i did was the twisted stout pack from MaltMiller. Before that the brew was the last of a 25KG bag that was no older than 3 months from purchase. I was wondering whether the last bits of a large bag is made up more of the finer crashed grain (falling to the bottom) and whether this could...
