Re: Low Alkalinity Water (Low TDS)

continued... Previous Dwr Cymru water reports had been okay (had "balanced"), but not this new collection! What I'm guessing is the main report and "summary report" has gotten uncoordinated. The main report was made up of a specified number of tests published as the "average" and "high" value for ea...

Re: Low Alkalinity Water (Low TDS)

So, I'll analyse the latest analysis first ... And yes, this is an excuse to air my "Defuddler" spreadsheet: Defuddler - 2014 B06.jpg The Calcium box is grey because the figure was derived from the "Foetid Mire" (all the "Hardness" stuff lurks down their). The values the "Foetid Mire" uses or calcul...

Re: Low Alkalinity Water (Low TDS)

Note neither have a Calcium figure (mg/l). I take this to be because they test for arcane "Hardness" and calculate the Calcium figure from that. Hence, they do a Magnesium analysis so they can separate Calcium from "Hardness": Note they can also quote Calcium and Magnesium in their "Hardness" guises...

Low Alkalinity Water (Low TDS)

My Water Company (Dwr Cymru) snuck this update past me (no idea how long they published it, wasn't there last October, but I've got it now): Water Report (Brief) 2014 B06 - Denbigh Zone.jpg Everything appears to have crept upwards, and there's some unwelcome hiccups in it! First off: Comparing it wi...

Re: Ferments release dried Brett yeast

Flippin' heck. This stuff past me right by.

Who here is using it? Hell of a price, but not as involved as the "liquid offerings. Not many selling it either: Fermentis BR-8 - Get-er-brewed

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectant

... I've heard of a commercial surface disinfectant containing 1.4% hydrogen peroxide (30-60 second contact time), and Harris Suresan, which is Sodium Percarbonate, which could only come up with a tenth of that (but they do say 15 minute contact time). Alcohol I've seen down as 64-73% for "optimum" ...

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectant

40% works just fine. I have being doing such for years, ever since I leaned how vodka plants wash bottles. I've come across another article I wrote elsewhere: I dug up that article: one.jpg It was from: https://mycoscience.com/sterilization-vs-sanitization-vs-disinfection/ I usually prefer somethin...

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectabt

Alcohol kills bugs. You have never seen a bottle of gin go off👍🏻 Costs very little to ship 😁 and doesn't respond to "boo" or even stronger language (I have tested this thoroughly) Yeap! Got me eye on Isopropyl Alcohol (not sure if it's safe as a no-rinse spray, should be?) Definitely not wasting Gi...

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectant

I don’t use cleaners to disinfect. I use PBW followed with Starsan. For yeast propagation I use iodophor. That more or less backs up my query! PBW is mainly Percarbonate, and so is Suresan! PBW is just a very expensive way of purchasing Percarbonate (you need to be sold on the propriety extras they...

Re: Percarbonate as a Disinfectant

Blimey, the things these little write-ups can lead you to ... Harris Suresan They don't seem too worried about the solution being <3% concentration! There are also some reports that Hydrogen Peroxide can be difficult to get hold of because of lunatics using it to make explosives. I have some interes...

Percarbonate as a Disinfectabt

Something I've always wanted to prove/disprove: We are all used to Sodium Percarbonate being offered as a safe "cleaner", it comes in many (often outrageously expensive) "propriety" cleaners such as PBW, but how effective was it at killing bugs responsible for beer going off? Percarbonate's cleaning...

Whoa!

Legal druggies ... just the job ...
Collider beers will be available to buy in 330ml bottles (£32 for 12) and 330ml cans (£30 for 12) via the Collider webshop.
Humm, bit steep though. Think I'll stick to visiting Jack from down road for his stuff.

All Nations, Madeley (Telford) and the Three Tuns, Bishop’s Castle, both Shropshire; and the Old Swan, Netherton, Dudley, West ...

Re: The Old Swan Inn pub & brewery

And if you ever want a tune on a 19th C. sounding church organ, it's got that too (and a musician ... when he's not being the landlord). I'll make it my mission to visit it along with two others of "the four" (in Shropshire, so not far for me to walk). Fortunately, I've ticked the Cornish one (when ...
