Re: Another Starsan Quetion.

A very quick response from Five Star. And one that doesn't cause me concern for the cloudiness in my starsan. EDIT: I've edited this to remove the email address from Five Star. Didn't want spam bots picking this up. Contact details are available from the Five Star website. to me Hi Martin, Thank you...

Re: Watch for great head

Interesting stuff. Though if Charlie Bamforth were a Football Manager, his choice of words in describing the women behind the temperance movement (the first part of the vid) might well have landed him on the front pages!

Re: Another Starsan Quetion.

Yep no clouding for me either with ashbeck. As far as i understand, the clouding is the surfactant coming out of solution, which makes it ineffective to use cloudy starsan regardless of pH.. I keep reading this on Home Brew forums. My Starsan always goes cloudy when I use it with my tap water. I've...

Re: Keg Conditioning

I'm just starting the journey into Corny kegs. I kegged a batch yesterday, which was primed and is currently conditioning in the keg. I got myself a spunding valve' which acts as a blow off valve for extra pressure. As this is my first use, I can't vouch for it as yet. I'm sure it will take a little...

Re: SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle

I've just bought a 15 gallon one of these with a false bottom, so I'm really interested in this topic, but I don't understand what is meant by 'whirlpool'. Is it just give it a damn good stir for a couple of minutes to get it going round in the boiler and then leave it to settle? I assume this drag...

Re: SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle

I whirlpool with a long plastic spoon in my cordless drill but still find that the trub dam does not catch everything and the ball valve can get clogged. I use silicon tube to transfer the wort to the fermenter so when the flow slows, I pinch the tube about 20cm from the valve and then repeatedly s...

Re: SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle

Thanks guys.

The short answer to the whirlpool question is..no! It shall be done next time. I tend to gently stir the wort while the chiller does it's work, so I guess I'd chill, whirlpool, leave for 10, then drain.

SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle

I tried out my new SS Brewtech kettle/Buffalo Induction combo on Monday. Works great. The pot is SOLID and very heavy! The Induction Hob worked a treat and kept my modest 17 litre pre boil wort boiling on pretty much half power. The kettle came with a dam trub, which is an angled tube that fits in t...

Re: A right Royal Brew!

a brew that will mature nicely in about 6 weeks. Hate to piss on your chips but her birthday is the 21st April. A low gravity beer and a beast of a yeast and force carbonation and you might just make it. I've brewed one for the Village beacon lighting (see sig below). Sovereign hops keep the theme ...

I'm drinking an Alt at the moment and I was surprised how similar to a Bitter it was.

Re: A right Royal Brew!

You could include all sorts really... IPA... Australian or New Zealand hops... Just use the excuse of it celebrating the Commonwealth that the Queen is head of. I like that line of thinking =D> Something that fits in with the Commonwealth is a great idea. I'd like it to be cask ale style, to fit in...

I like your thinking and there's at least a couple of links there! :D However, my MIL is bad enough on the Sauvignon Blanc! I'm not sure I should be encouraging anarchy on such a Stately occasion! :-k

A right Royal Brew!

My Mother In Law is organising a tea Party in celebration of The Queens 90th (not sure if it's her proper B-day or her pretend one :? ). The only way I can motivate myself to attend such an event is by making sure I'm well lubricated, so I'm thinking of getting brave and doing a brew to put in my pr...

Re: Making bread with left over yeast

I've not tried this, but I've home baked for quite a while. If I were to do it, I'd build up a starter first of all. Google 'making bread with beer trub' to get some ideas. You could also use a conditioned bottle of your homebrew and make a barm. Google "Dan Lepard's Barm bread", which uses a bottle...
