Cholaca?

I'm thinking of making my first chocolate stout, and a lot of American recipes use liquid chocolate 'Cholaca'.
Is there anywhere in the UK selling this stuff?

Re: Boil hop pellets in the fermenter?

Thanks for the replies, I'll have to weigh things up.
The problem with leaving things to clean later, is that is a slippery slope, and with my memory there is a good chance I'll just plain forget until the next brewday :/.

What about using a BIAB bag to line the whole kettle?

Boil hop pellets in the fermenter?

Whats your opinion on transferring the boil hops (pellets) from your kettle to the fermenter along with your wort? I imagine that whole hops could be a pain, but hop pellets should just compact down into the trub, but what do you think? I'm considering doing away with hop bags/spiders just to make c...

Plastic Barrel fermentors?

Does anyone have any opinions on plastic barrel fermentors like THIS one?
I need a new fermentor that will fit in an undercounter fridge.
TIA.

Re: Trub: leave or rack?

Eric did indeed mention benefits on trub for fermentation, but they were limited and conditional, so for for the sake of clarity and to disassociation myself from your version, it is repeated below. I'll presume your interpretation was a misunderstanding rather than one of intent, but kindly reques...

Re: Trub: leave or rack?

I am incredibly sorry for offending you, I thought you were either being simply rude, or a troll. Eric mentioned "brewing scientists" had found that trub had benefits on fermentation. Which I requested a source on, and in reply he did an excellent job. Which in turn I felt the need to show my approv...

Re: Trub: leave or rack?

No, far, far, far from it, it was just a part of a far reaching examination of brewing problems. It's there to be found for those who want to know, but not in glib one line ill-informed dismisive crap occasionally found when browsing forums on the internet. It started when the Dean of the Faculty o...

I use a spray nozzle on the end of my hose from my kettle to my fermentor.

Very well said. :D

As I like to think to myself:
"Q- What's the worst that could happen? A- Not great beer." Which is not generally a bad thing.

Re: Is this a terrible idea? Rotary Spray Ball edition

The straining of the liquor should hopefully be achieved by the BIAB bag. although I was wondering about using it during cooling to ensure maximum contact with my Persian cooler, at which point my bag is out and there are hops to worry about. And I have to admit I have no idea if my pump has the oom...
