Re: Cheap barrels

Well after transferring to a king keg and adding a small amount of sugar to start it off again it isn’t carbonating at all but does taste okay. So strong ha ha . I will put this down to experience

Cheap barrels

I have three barrels, one king keg and two of the cheaper loop handle on top ones. The two cheaper ones I have had for a couple of years and they have both had pinhole holes in the top near the cap for no reason at all. At the moment I have a really nice tasting flat stout in one and I have just not...

Re: Bottle sizes

There is so much confusing advice given from all sides so I would rather stick with caution when bottling. I somehow managed to have 24 L so that works out to be 60 G ? As we have all learned we never start knowing it all, we have to ask and seek advice to learn. Thanks for your advice and help guys...

Re: Bottle sizes

Cheers WalesAles, I will try batch priming using a spare barrel as I only have one bucket. From what I've read, I will use 150g of priming sugar?
I will let you know how it goes when I've done it in a few days.

Re: Bottle sizes

I was thinking the logical answer too 😂. The primary fermentation is approximately 22 to 24° I have a separate working fridge to place the bottles in once they are filled, all I have to do is select the correct or appropriate temperature in there. I am guessing that leaving them outside the fridge f...

Bottle sizes

I usually barrel my beer but I am doing a lager now and I am using bottles. My question is, I have carbonation tablets which say use one for 380 ml bottles and use two for 750 ml bottles or something like that. My bottles are only 500 ml so do I use one or two tablets?

Anything to add to a Coopers lager ?

I am about to start a Coopers lager which I have done before but I am wondering is there anything I could add to maybe enhance the flavour? My strange mind is thinking of putting some frozen black forest fruits into a muslin and adding that to the bucket to give some fruity aromas? Would that work o...

Re: Bottling and barrelling

Hi Walesales, I normally take readings anyway, I just found the life of this one amusing lol.
I'm keg/bottling today or tomorrow.
Are you in Wales with that name? I'm up N.Wales 😁

Re: Bottling and barrelling

Thanks for that, it makes more sense in my own mind now and priming the barrel first would be a lot easier. I think I'll add 110g of priming sugar 😁.
Wish me luck lol.

After 2 weeks in the bucket it's still gurgling 😳🤓.

Bottling and barrelling

I have a Geordie bitter which is nearly ready and I am thinking of barrelling half of it and bottling the rest. I can't seem to get my head around the best way to do it. i.e. Should I siphon straight from the bucket into the barrel and then from the barrel into my bottles, and when and how much suga...
