Re: Whirlpool arm - how to use

I know we have spoken on twitter and you have seen photos of my setup but its easier here with no character limits, I currently use a immersion chiller with no filtering at all. At the start of the boil I chuck bittering hops in loose, then with 15 mins to go I put in my chiller and start the pump u...

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?

Pick one of these up and put a standard Ball valve on it, you'll need a couple of clamps and a blow off for the lid https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-DN15-Sanitary-Male-Threaded-Ferrule-Pipe-Fits-Tri-Clamp-Type-SUS-SS-316-UK/253777609209?hash=item3b165301f9:g:3oEAAOxy4YdTWg2x:rk:21:pf:0 https://www.eba...

Re: Yeast infection

I'd try it, does it smell bad ? I've never had one look like that but it could just be suspended yeast

Re: Stockpots as fermenters?

Brewbuilder flay bottomed should be great, similar to my conical. If I was buying again I'd get the 33L version with a butterfly valve and racking arm :)

Re: Priming question

Sounds about right if you like fizzy Cider, some people add it to water and boil it for a minute to sterilize it. I just tip the sugar in the bottle and rack over the top. If your bulk priming i'd just use water, you dont know how much the fresh apple juice will ferment out and you may get exploding...

Re: Single element

That sounds like a good plan, especially if work is being done already. By the way, one thing that not everyone realises - because it seems ridiculous - is that domestic double sockets aren't officially required to handle double the current. So as you're able to plan ahead, I'd suggest going for at...

Re: Single element

Thanks everyone, I picked up another bottle from a different supplier in the end but I'm still looking at electric. Were supposed to be having an extension soon (if the builder turns up) and will get the garage wired up with a decent supply.

Single element

Locally I cant get hold of any Calor gas patio bottles and they want me to pay another deposit for a standard propane bottle or I could pony up for a flogas bottle. Being cheesed off I wondered if I could move to electric instead ? I have a brewbuilder 50L pot atm and I generally have a starting boi...

Re: Beer engines; keeping it fresh

I have a half pint angram and I've been playing with this and have found that on my pump I can disconnect from the corny take the disconnect off and the hand pump will actually get almost all the beer out the engine, I then put it in starsan and run through until clear.

Re: Insulated mash tuns

I bought my thermopot not too long ago from Germany and did it myself, if you have a dremel and qmax it really isnt hard. Think with the false bottom it came in at around £140 for a 50L

Re: 3-piece ball valve alternatives

Yep I use 2 piece on my hot side, once that have been apart once its easy enough to split them. It takes seconds to pop them open and get the seals out to clean well. I could do with a tap with no dead space, I use tri clamp butterfly on my FV and have to be so careful when connecting up my keg and ...

You have flow control on your tap, no need for dropping the pipe size. Straight 3/8 will work with no issues
