Re: Other uses for corny kegs

The first time I used a cornelius keg, I filled it up with clean water for pressure testing. The wife liked the soda water it turned into so I had to wait a while before I could use it for beer. I lost my patience in the end though and ended up filling some used and cleaned lemonade bottles to enabl...

Re: Questions about living with conicals

You can fit castors to the Brewtech conicals, I believe it's a 3/8" thread.

Re: Grainfather conical fermenter

I added the domed lid to my bucket. Gives an extra 3l I think of headspace That sounds like a great idea and would solve the blow-off problem. :D Goldthirst- sorry i meant how much volume of wort do you transfer - i usually only end up with 16 or 17 litres in the FV so might not be such an issue fo...

Re: Grainfather conical fermenter

Goldthirst- how much wort are you putting into the BM Bucket? thinking of getting a tall fridge and two of these that i can stack, so have two temp controlled fermenters on the go at one time. as you say much cheaper than the GF. one thing that stands out about the GF glycerol chiller is that you c...

Re: S30 right angle

It's something I've been looking for too. I may make up one myself from the valve off an old cylinder and a spare S30 barrel connector. It's probably best to have the bottle vertical though so a length of gas hose that can stand the pressure between the two might be better. I did find this which I w...

Re: PH tester

You can get the cheap yellow type one's but I would get one of these as they are an improvement.

Marston's Pedigree is now bottle conditioned. I believe Hop Back Summer Lightning is too.

Re: Maxi 210 using, draining and cleaning

Ironically, I just got myself a Maxi 210 and powered it up today. I found the recirculating pump only works when the water is over a certain level. I had the unit on for around 20 minutes and the water coming out of the recirculating pump was down to around 8 - 9°C and I assume it would drop down mo...

Re: New Grainfather question

The discharge pump was pre-assembled on my Grainfather when I got it at the end of March. I do have a very small dent lower down on the outer shell but I didn't find any scratches. Mine also has the newer controller and just the one switch.

Re: Crossmyloof yeast

I've used the Real Ale yeast twice now and it's very good. It started fermenting in less than 6hrs from pitching and was very active. I would recommend it. I did follow the instruction and added the yeast to around half a cup full of tepid water (out of the kettle) before hand.

Re: Grainfather conical fermenter

I currently use a SS Brewtech Brewmaster Bucket which is nicely made but I'm finding there isn't sufficient head space above the wort. The first brew I did must of blew off about 3 pints. The second brew I had to rack the rest into a separate 1 gal demijohn to stop the waste. A new fermenter would h...

Re: What to do when your mash is too efficient?

The two Graham Wheeler recipes I've done in the Grainfather have both turned out at a higher gravity than shown in the book.
