Re: Festival New Zealand Pilsner.
I did a Festival Landlords Bitter in August and it was superb, although next time I won't use so many hops. The only downside was getting the liquid malt extract out of the sachets - tins are much easier.

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
Thanks for the photo Dave - the colour looks very similar to the pilsner currently lagering in my garage. I contacted Muntons who replied as follows (and as expected): "Without the batch numbers I can’t check the product that went into the cans to know what specification the material was in each one...

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
Hi Dave - I did wonder if I was inadvertently given the bitter kit! I may contact Muntons for their thoughts though I've thrown the cans away which presumably would have some code/info relating to their manufacture. I've still got the packaging which is definitely for the Gold Continental Pilsner. T...

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
I bought two more of these kits last March, made one immediately and was very pleased with the results. In October, I happened to look on the underside of the remaining kit (two cans) to discover the recommended use by date was August 2023. So, I started the brew straightaway and brewed it to 22 lit...

Re: Festival Landlords Finest Bitter
Nearly two months after bottling the beer has turned out fine. I was a bit apprehensive at first as it tasted somewhat harsh but the hoppy nature has mellowed and the body is good as is the head. Because it's very hoppy I wouldn't mistake this for Timothy Taylor's Landlord Bitter, which it is suppos...

Re: bottles
I like crown corks as they're 100% airtight. By comparison, the tops I use for flagons (two pint bottles) - hard plastic screw-on lids with a rubber seal inside - sometimes let me down. I've used swing tops before and had no problems. I'm not sure you need to change the seal so frequently - why don'...

Re: Festival Landlords Finest Bitter
Bottled yesterday (5th September) after 12 days in the bin and it looks and smells glorious. I managed to get virtually every drop into bottles though the last one was extra cloudy and contains a fair proportion of tub. Patience is required now as the instructions recommend 14 days of secondary as 2...

Re: Festival Landlords Finest Bitter
DAY FIVE: As per instructions I've added the extra hops. Ritchies recommend ten days fermentation before checking the final gravity - which for this kit is set for 1.009. Interestingly, the instructions say, "Ensure fermenter is kept at a constant warm temperature between 20-25C throughout fermenta...

Re: Fresh wort 'kits' from MM
Interesting 10 minute video at the foot of the link you supplied on how to make the beer. It's very simple, but as you say, it feels like cheating. Any idea how long a fresh wort kit would last before it's opened? I wouldn't have thought it would have such a long use before date as traditional kits.

Festival Landlords Finest Bitter
I've just started Landlords Finest Bitter, a Festival Premium Ale kit made by Ritchies. I understand this is based on Tim Taylor's Landlord and it's in the top range of home brew kits. As far as I can remember, the kit cost about £26 and I'm looking forward to sampling the finished product in Octobe...

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
I've recently ordered two more of these kits and started one today. The yeast packet merely states "Lager yeast 6g" followed by a number.

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
"The lab made the kit work most reliably with an ale yeast, nobody normally notices, well done." Imo might be closer to the mark. As the person who drank the 40 pints I can reliably say it tasted like a lager and had a lager-like body. Please read my second post where I wrote: "The finished article...

Re: Review - Muntons Gold Continental Pilsner
BITTER DAVE - Was it fermented with an ale yeast at ale temps or with a lager yeast at lager temps? Hi Dave - have just received a useful and informative reply from Muntons: Thanks for your enquiry, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the kit. The yeast used is actually a lager strain, but you are correct...
