Re: SW's Rakau Rumpus (IPA) 02-11-09

Yes indeed! Looking forward to cramming in as many brewdays as I can before Christmas :)

I took it easy on the steeping hops - I drank the trial jar whilst kegging and bitterness, flavour and aroma were more subdued than my normal efforts... it actually tasted balanced. Almost a first for me

Re: SW's Rakau Rumpus (IPA) 02-11-09

They're some kind of new-fangled NZ high-alpha dual-purpose hop. I fancied trying something a little different to mark my return to brewing. Anyhooz, I pitched 2 rehydrated, DFS'd packs of Nottingham and the yeast absolutely ripped through it - it had fermented right down and was floccing and slowly...

How do you find the Rakau hops adm? I got some in from H&G and was planning on doing something like a BrewDog Punk IPA with them tomorrow.

Re: Calling London Brewers! What do you treat your water with?

@yogester Seeing as you live about a mile from me I'm guessing your water will probably be pretty similar... For all water: 1 crushed campden tablet in mash liquor 2 or 3 crushed campden's in the mash grains (a Durden Park trick oops did I let out a secret??) 2 or 3 crushed campdens in sparge ...

Re: Massive Styrian Stunner 6-5-09 (now with picture goodness)

YYYYYYYYYYYYYes Flytact, my idea of a good 'stunner is 6-batcher ;)

Interesting use of US hops - one of the best stunners I made was cascade/styrians.

Yum, all that stunner... Image

I'm doing a TTL clone today with Wyeast 1469 (TTL strain). Maybe I should call mine The Landlord of the Mos Eisley Cantina ;)

Determining the gravity of 2 mixed worts - how?

Hi all In trying to work out a pre-boil gravity I've got a boiler with 27.5l of 1.047 and a further 4l of 10.14 to top up with - how do I work out the gravity of these worts when mixed together? I'm sure it should be easy, but as I may have said before, my maths ain't good... thx. EDIT: I mean...

Re: Transatlantic Porter 22-02-09

Thought I'd feed back on this one for anyone who is interested. I think I'll back off the roast barley a little next time as there is maybe a little too much burnt-roast flavour to this.
