Re: Irn Bru wine...

My next one will be a hooch made from Tesco fiery cola.

Re: Irn Bru wine...

Actually. Mine came out like a medium dry white wine. Good fizz. Very clear, definatley a gulping rather than sipping drink but no really heavy nasty after taste. It was slow to start fermenting but went off really well and stopped really quickly. I might actually have a bash at a Cola hooch next.

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Well, the CastIron Brew is poured and pint half consumed and you know what, it isn't half bad.
Quite dry, slight aftertaste I can't quite place, but like a medium dry sparkling wine.

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Oh the hard lemonade sounds good will need to try that and a fiery ginger beer.
I have in my own mind, that a fermented cola might be "interesting" and Tesco have started doing their own "fiery" chili cola. I fancy trying that.

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

The Lidl CastIronBrew has cleared all by itself in the primary DJ, so is now bottled. 1 2ltr PET and 4 500ml PETs for easier drinking later. Saved a drop as a taster and like a medium dry white wine in taste with an after taste and aroma of IronBrew. Should be quite pleasant and mellow when aged a l...

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Fermentation appears to be nearly over and it looks to be starting to clear. Going to leave a few more days and see if it clears fully in the DJ or whether I need to rack before bottling.

Re: Any recommendations for a mini fridge for 2l bottles.

I tried a still pint of it before bottling and it was lovely.
As good as commercial scrumpy my local sells. I'm hoping with a bit of fizz and a little aging it will also mellow out a little too.

Re: Any recommendations for a mini fridge for 2l bottles.

But Turbo Ciders will always be that little bit cloudy as they are essentially scrumpies made from concentrate juice, instead of fresh pressing and never quite clear all their yeast no matter how long you allow. While you could go all through a secondary vessel and using fining, but the whole point ...

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Seems ok. The first still pint was mighty tasty, waiting for carbonation to complete then will give the fizzy stuff a go.

Re: Any recommendations for a mini fridge for 2l bottles.

So the bottles don't explode once they are fully carbonated
. Not going to chill them for about another week but don't have anywhere cool enough to settle them out now they are getting nice and fat.

Any recommendations for a mini fridge for 2l bottles.

Don't really have anywhere in the house that is cool, and don't have a shed at minute. But I have some 2l PET bottles of turbo cider carbonating that could do with chilling down soon. It isn't for long term storage just somewhere to put them until the yeast goes dormant and I can sort out somewhere ...

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Well, the CastIron Brew is now going about once a second, and showing no sign of slowing down. TC 2 appears to have stopped within 3 full days. So I thought it couldn't hurt to add half a teaspoon of yeast nutrient to it, and low and behold, a slow but steady glop and an increase in the gas bubbles ...

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Well, the taster went down well. Slightly dryer and less fruity in flavour than the Westons I've been drinking. But still very very good. The Lidl juice brew is going well now. I only added 150g of brown sugar to the gallon, and the brewing smell is slightly sweeter. Could be the better quality juic...

Re: First TC on the go, wish me luck.

Thanks Guys. The pint I left to settle pretty much cleared to be able to see through it. Of course pouring from the bottle disturbed it a little. So now it is like cloudy scrumpy. Slightly dryer, but similar colour and taste to the Weston's traditional my local sells. I'm going to rack the Lidl batc...
