Re: Tonka beans
I made a Left Hand Milk Stout clone, and dosed half the batch with a tonka bean tincture I'd made using vodka. I don't have a record of how much I used, although I think I just used the same rate as the guy from Kilned Brewing, so I maybe used 7 or 8 beans in 11.5 L. The taste was pretty dominant, a...

What yeast is it ? I'd just take a refractometer reading, or drop in your hydrometer.

Re: Fuller's Yeast Creeping Attenuation
The soon-to-be-released Danstar/Lallemand London ESB is supposedly Fuller's ( their head brewer has been promoting it, and ESB is a Fuller's trademark ). I agree about the over-attenuation of dried yeasts, which is why I'm trying to get away from Notty and SO4, and there's such a great variety of li...

Re: Fuller's Yeast Creeping Attenuation
Well done on the 2nd place, shame about the carbonation issue :( . Have you degassed a sample and taken a gravity reading ? I haven't done much brewing lately ( just a couple of 1/2 size stovetop BIAB's, as I'm waiting for cooler weather ), but I do have a bitter made with some yeast cultured from B...

It's been re-badged as M36 Liberty Bell Ale yeast, apparently.
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Homebrew2u ... eader-name still stocks M79, and he doesn't charge postage for yeast.

Re: Fuller's Yeast Creeping Attenuation
I batch prime with 65g of dextrose for 23L. This is the only yeast I've used where I get over-carbonation. I've tried rousing the yeast towards the end of fermentation and bumping the temperature up a couple of degrees.

Fuller's Yeast Creeping Attenuation
Anyone have a solution for this ? I've used Whitelabs, Brewlabs and the real deal cultured from Bengal Lancer, all have become over-carbonated in the bottle. I love the character I get from this yeast, but unless I can find an answer to this problem I'll be keeping it for the beers I put into a barr...

Re: Flaked maize at WHS
Good to know. What do you feel it adds to a bitter ? I've used some in a cream ale, which turned out well, but I've still got 500g that I'm looking to use up.

Re: Hop pellets
I just use some crimped stainless steel mesh that fits around the 15mm filter I previously used for whole hops. I've had over 300g of pellet hops in a 23L brew without an issue. The mesh was just an A3 sheet of #20.

Re: Geterbrewed Raffle Craft-A-Beer Extract Wheat Beer
Just tucking into a pint of this. Lots of yeast character, spicy coriander and zesty orange, and a noticeable contribution from the hops. Nice light body, but I should have carbed it a bit more. Having never done an extract before, I really didn't know what to expect, but this is a really pleasant b...

Geterbrewed Raffle Craft-A-Beer Extract Wheat Beer
I managed to find time after lunch today to put this on. The options I selected were :- Wheat Extract ( 2 x 1.5 kg of Muntons Wheat/Pils extract ) 30 IBU's worth of hop extract ( I used half, for a typical Wit IBU of about 15 ) Sorachi Ace/Motueka/Nelson Sauvin hop tea bags ( you get 20g of each hop...

Re: Wanted: A simple lager recipe
Have a read of this:- http://brulosophy.com/methods/lager-method/. I've used this method a few times and produced lagers which are every bit as good as those I've made using the traditional method, in a fraction of the time.

66 isn't that low, I suspect the brown sugar might have thinned it a bit.

Re: Brewday 17th July 2015 - Effin Wheat Beer BM#001.150717
I did my first Braumeister brew this week. After doing a coarser crush than previously, I still had a problem with the flour blocking the hop stopper. I'm also going to invest in some silicone edging to fit around the top screen and stop the larger bits of grain from escaping into the boil. Nice pic...
