Re: Kettle trub blocking filter
Woah nastyphoenix! That is a beast... Thanks evveryone for your input. Much appreciated and very helpful. It's true that this is a really tricky problem. Always comes at the tired/late end of a brew evening too. As I brew outside I am also very wary of cool wort hanging around for long as I think I ...

Re: Kettle trub blocking filter
I circulated during the last 10mins of the boiler to sanitise the pump, hoses and fittings. Seems to be recieved wisdom but I could achieve this with Starsan if I was careful. I recirculated during chilling (with a copper immersion) as again received wisom is that this speeds up the chilling process...

Kettle trub blocking filter
Hi everyone, I am determined to crack the latter stages of my brew day. The chilling and draining to the fermenter have never worked well and cause losses, infection risk and slow things down. I also had really bad clarity on my last batch. My boiler is a 100L litre stainless kettle with a 1/2 BSP c...

Re: Help with my Darkmoor and its FG!
Just took a proper reading and its bang on 1.020. I make that just shy of 6%. Tastes amazing, with loads of roasty/coffee/chocolate notes but just a bit too sweet and cloying for me. Clearing well . Desperate to bring the FG down... I can nudge the temperature up but is there any chance another yeas...

Help with my Darkmoor and its FG!
Afternoon all, Although the sun is out I am trying to be organised and make some dark, strong, malty beers for the autumn that need a little ageing. I wanted something full bodied and malty after all the saisons and APAs but think I might have over cooked it! I wouldn't normally do this, but I made ...

Re: Using my time more effectively...
I have a demanding job, demanding lady friend and two demanding little children. This what I have found works and doesn't work for me... - Making crap beer. Whatever way you come at it, there is a time demand, so make sure it's worth it. Streamline your process but don't cut corners that detract fro...

Hops! Brewing an American hop bomb for competition
Gents, We have a local/fun competition coming up on 30th April (i.e. 6 weeks away). I have brews on but I'm planning on brewing a last minute American hop bomb to ensure aroma is as fresh as possible. I have always aged my beers and been conservative with hops - not this time! I dont brew a lot of t...

Kit tips for a friend just starting out
Hi guys, I have an old friend who wants to get into brewing this year. Total newbie with only £100 or so to spend on gear. He loves a bit of science so would like go all grain if he can. What would you suggest? I was going to suggest that all grain is a steep learning curve and £100 won't be enough ...

I have one of the shiny stainless ones above too. Expensive but really well made and problems so far (6 months in, couple of pigs cured and packed!)
