Hi guys,
Has anyone tried using Abbey malt as the base malt? If so, could you give some idea of the outcome? Successful or not?
Any info would be great, especially attached to a recipe!
Have a good one!

Re: Using Hop 'tea' for increasing bitterness during/post fermentation
If you still have wort, boil a small ammount of it (stovetop) with the hops and add back. Thinking out loud, you could also do it with the fermenting beer. Remove a saucepan full. Boil, actually SIMMER. Then strain & add back once temps are the same. Don't be too concerned about infection etc, as y...

Using Hop 'tea' for increasing bitterness during/post fermentation
Good morning. My brew yesterday was a disaster! Mad rush, plenty of distractions and the end result my bittering hops (Cryo Simcoe 26% AA) were left out of the boil and only found when tidying up! I have found mention on the web of boiling the hops in a pot or kettle to make a 'tea'. Does anyo...

Re: Grainfather brew # 5 - Disaster! Help!
Always wondered what temp does it go down to there. Always thought it was warm all year like Australia Not where I am unfortunately! It has snowed in the town on occasion! I don't do cold too well - born in Swaziland & grew up in Durban. Both places are on the warmish side year round (actually to b...

Re: Grainfather brew # 5 - Disaster! Help!
Hi Dave, yes I have seen that with multi-step mash. I agree with what you say & the only reason I did it was that my previous brew (Red Ale) I did with a multi-step & it came out awesome! So, I thought, what the hell lets do it again - I had time on my hands! Anyway, the brew is still there, ...

Re: Grainfather brew # 5 - Disaster! Help!
Thanks for the comments all! I never thought of the mash temp but I did do a two phase - 1 at 45'C for 30 minutes & then the other (supposedly) at 65-68 for 60 Minutes. Oi Vey - I just checked my brewery & found my fuggles still where I left them! Mebbe that never helped either..... So a few ...

Re: Grainfather brew # 5 - Disaster! Help!
Hi guys, Attached is the sheet from Brewsmith (PDF format). As I said I got a bit big-headed & tried out a "no sparge" method & I think my problem is around the amount of grain to liquor - too little grain for this method! I think I should have hit a grain bill of around 9Kg. The mash was split into...

Re: Grainfather brew # 5 - Disaster! Help!
Hi Tony,
Thanks. I'm not too fussed about the alcohol - as I said it tastes as if it is zero anyway. I was wondering if, by boiling it off a tad that some of the original grain flavours would still be noticeable. But, yeah, you right, I guess it's heading for the bin.
