Re: Belgian Wit...

Thanks [emoji846] The green twine is to hold the insulative matting onto the braumeister. I refuse to pay for the proper one! It does the job well enough [emoji16] It was a late one but I have a busy weekend ahead doing some DIY so couldn't allocate time to it any other day. I wanted to get the brew...

Belgian Wit...

So a Belgian Wit brew evening, started 5pm and all finished and cleaned up by 1130pm... A record time for me. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210528/d5facbf5330cf532137ce9d9317a0b51.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210528/bfacfa6f46a96c94cbe641b7e125ef73.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com...

Re: The Great British Brew-off?

That will be interesting to watch. Difficult for many to enter with work schedules I suspect.

Even if I say I prefer the Spaten? :)

Although it's possible that it's mostly because of nostalgia (the Spaten tents are easier to get in to...)
Ha ha! Especially so [emoji23]

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

So I'm thinking about brewing an Octoberfest beer from the aforementioned Wheeler / Protz book. Same type of question as before, has anyone brewed these and have an opinion to share? I'm looking at p146 Hacker-Pschorr Octoberfest Marzen or perhaps p150 Spaten Octoberfest Marzen. Many thanks Sent fro...

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

Is there an advantage to putting the bottle on its side rather than standing it up? Of course, less distance for yeast and other suspended matter to drop for the beer to clear. When bottling, only raise the top enough to avoid the beer emptying when the top is removed, when with care, no sediment w...

Re: Brewgas

Forgot to say... It is cheaper in the long run to buy in bulk with bigger cylinders and a regulator.

Re: Brewgas

If these are the same as the Hambleton bard s30 cylinders the key reason for them leaking was using them for more than a seconds blast. The CO2 freezes the pin open. Have a mug of warm water to put the valve into fixes this issue.

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

Hi Eric, that sounds rather like what was happening to me with the hops too. Had to keep stirring them back into the wort. Fortunately I didn't lose any over the edge of the boiler. I hadn't considered the protein content of the grain, I do hope the effect carries over when I pour a pint of the fini...

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

Thanks Eric, it was an enjoyable brew day. It was unusually foamy during the boil, had to keep my eye on it and lift the funnel lid frequently. Normally this settles down after it comes to the boil, but not this time round. Normally I don't brew this pale, nor go single malt either, so possibly to d...

So I finally got the time to brew the Budvar Budweiser clone, so far so good [emoji106] https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210407/38525461ca72b6fa6333b6a20c30dc0a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210407/fc665df9ecd3e040ec69413dcf86242f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210407/78c3c34fbac5...

Re: carbonation drops?

I haven't bottled in quite a while, but when I did I quickly moved from priming each bottle individually to batch priming. This ensures each bottle no matter what it's size is always consistently 'fizzy' (useful if you have different sized bottles). A bag of sugar is also a lot cheaper than the carb...

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

That was an interesting read, no worries about being off track. It's all related to the recipe book in reality. I decided that I'd brew the Budvar Budweiser first then follow that up with a wheat beer. That will get me through to the early summer. I can then focus on the more autumnal winter brews....

Re: Brewing lager from Wheeler/Protz European Beers at Home...

The Dubbel has certainly caught my attention. I wonder if the caramel flavours could be reproduced using a stove top pan for a more intense heat? I'm fairly sure this wouldn't be achieved on my (electric) set up. I’ve seen another homebrewer recommend the following technique for his award winning w...
