Re: A very bitter bitter!
Dean, a few years ago I made a pale ale, that I thought would be tasty, but ended a bit like yours. I was using Topaz, and had no idea about AA% etc. The topaz I had was in the region of 14%. I ended up chucking about 200g over the course of 60 minutes - thinking that it would be ok. I was always pl...

Re: How long do you keep your grain
Fastline, I have just used up some 9 month old crushed grain (last Tuesday). Efficiency was slightly down but I was advised that if it is dry and tastes ok it is good to go.
Anyway, I think you are near me (I am in Bromley) so don't bin it !!!

Re: Campden Tablets
Is there any risk in using the hot tap like this? I have only done it with one brew, didn't really notice any difference taste wise.
Thanks
Thanks

You could also use 2l empty plastic fizzy bottles. Depending on where you are you could always ask your local pub/restaurant for empty bottles. My local pub was happy for me to take what I wanted.

Re: Proper job bottle condition yeast.
Hi. I am planning a pale brew for Tuesday and want to use proper job. Is it ok to use lme from Holland and Barret to make my starter? My local Wilko does not stock dme. I don’t have a conical, is this an issue? What can I use instead? Is a Demi Jon to big, or can I use a mason style jar? How much w...

Re: Lager in a corny
Thanks all. Aamcle I checked the link. Still a bit confused as it mentions temp of the beer. Currently it is crash cooled to 5c, which suggests only 60g of sugar, but if it was 20c, it would need 90g of sugar. How does this work? 60g sounds too little to me. I have nipped the dip tube before but fou...

Lager in a corny
But if a dilemma, haven't used my corny kegs for a couple of years, but have run out of bottles. I reckon I have enough gas to seal a keg and was thinking of priming with sugar. Is this ok? How much sugar should I use? I haven the brewed a lager in a while. I don't want glasses of foam either so am ...

I have just read this thread for the first time (not sure how I missed it), but it is an excellent read. Your write up of the brew day is really clear and flows really nicely.
Very, very interesting.

Re: Wen's Lunch (Patersbier) AG BIAB #8
I think the yeast is the most important part of this style beer. When I brewed it, it was the only time I have ever used a liquid Yeast (cost about £7), but really made the beer stand out. I had lots of bubble gum, banana, and such like flavours from the Yeast. I really should have tried to harvest ...

@aamcle to be honest the only one that I would consider as being always excellent is Coopers Stout. That stuff is very good.
