Vanilla pods

Post by far9410 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 12:39 am

Hi all

Thinking of a vanilla stout, got some vanilla pods, thought I might add at end of boil? Should I shred em? Anyone used em?

They need to be added post fermentation or you will loose almost all the flavour. Best way is to split and scrape seeds out and leave in glass of alcohol, I have used vodka and bourbon before to good effect. When fermentation has finished add the whole lot and leave for a few days before bottle/keg

Yes. Used Rob's vanilla pods to good effect this way.
