Using out of date malt extract for starter

Post by DC » Fri Jul 31, 2015 11:26 am

Hi all, I am hoping to get a brew on this coming Monday and I have just checked and my Jar of malt extract went out of date in June 2015. Just wondering if this would still be okay to make a starter with?

Cheers DC

I'm sure it will be absolutely fine. I'll bet the yeast won't be able to tell :D
Best wishes

I'd howl at the idea of using anything but the freshest extract for brewing, but can't see any reason why not to use it for a starter.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.
