The Homebrew Company is supplying BESTMALZ base malts at a good price. Has anyone tried these?
I am specifically interested in the following base malts:
BEST Pale Ale
BEST Munich
BEST Red X
BESTMALTZ

Re: BESTMALTZ
I've used their pilsner and munich malts and was quite happy with the results.
I'm just here for the beer.
Re: BESTMALTZ
I've had a few sacks of their Pale Ale and Heidelberg malt at very reasonable prices. No complaints.

Minch is also something worth looking at too but I've too been tempted by red x malt
Re: BESTMALTZ
Yes, Minch is Sebatian barley. I have been having good results with Dingemans Pale Ale malt which is the same variety but darker.sbond10 wrote:Minch is also something worth looking at too but I've too been tempted by red x malt
The Red X is interesting. I am thinking of a malty red ale with Northern Brewer+Northdown ...or maybe Goldings+Bramling X.

Good to know about Minch being lower colour dingemans pale. I use that malt for everything, but a low colour equivalent would be nice to have.
Re: BESTMALTZ
I bought a sack of Red X and a sack of Minch in the end.
The Homebrew Company: Ordering was easy on the web site Free delivery for orders over £70 (I bought a few extras) - they did not charge for excess weight/boxes like they say on web DPD let you know when they are going to deliver - he phoned me when he got lost Packaging was adequate for the long trip - they must have used a whole real of box tape All-in-all a pleasant shopping experience. I could smell the Red X before I opened the box - like pale chocolate malt. I'm looking forward to trying this. So, next brew will be an Irish red ale. Anyone got a recipe?
I'm thinking... OG 1045
IBU 25
100% Red X
Challenger for bittering and EKG to finish
wyeast 2112 @ 18C - a good clean yeast, highly flocculant and medium attenuation (expected FG 1012) Maybe a little wheat for head? ...or a dash of Caramalt for body?
