Flaked maize at WHS

Just thought it might be useful to members to know that WHS got some flaked maize in for me and have now added it to their website.
It's fantastic looking quality stuff which I'm reallly looking forward to using - I love it as an adjunct in bitters.

I'm not connected to them in any way, but was very pleased with the service and the Jims discount is still available so thought it worth passing on.

Cheers
Steve

Good to know. What do you feel it adds to a bitter ? I've used some in a cream ale, which turned out well, but I've still got 500g that I'm looking to use up.

It gives a little sweetness and seems to help with head retention.
Try it with a pale malt base using around 5% maize with about 2% choc malt for colour to an og of about 1.040.
Bitter to about 25 IBU with a single addition of an earthy hop in the boil like progress, WGV, fuggles or whatever takes your fancy, maybe pop in 15 - 20g or so of late hops (don't use any flame out hops)... and enjoy.
