Red X experience

Post by monkeymullins » Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:38 am

Hi all, has anyone used the red x Malt before? Wanting to use it in a mosaic red/amber ale.

What sort of taste did you get from it?

Single use for the grain bill?

How much did you use?

Any advice/experiences welcome. Thanks all

I'm curious about Red X, as I heard you can apparently use up to 100% iirc, which I'd be interested
in trying.

I brewed a triple mash with 100% red x . Ended up with 3 beers 7% ,5 % and 4.3% . Most dissapointing. The 4.3 on hand pump was ok ish . The stronger brews I discarded because of a flat 'papery ' taste . Been brewing 40 years and hardly ever had such a dissapointment. I will stick to pale malt + crystal etc for 'red' beers in future .
