Hop Growing 2017
Re: Hop Growing 2017
Most of the hop growing info I could find were from the american homebrewing forums, so I guess it must be a 'murican term
Will see how it turns out anyway
cheers

Started quickly but lost some momentum. Nugget is struggling a bit, but Centennial and Columbus are doing ok. Columbus even has a few cones starting, which is far too early.

I think you'll find they are lateral nodes and definitely not cones.timothy wrote:Started quickly but lost some momentum. Nugget is struggling a bit, but Centennial and Columbus are doing ok. Columbus even has a few cones starting, which is far too early.

Can't be arsed to keep changing this bit, so, drinking some beer and wanting to brew many more!

Au contraire mon amis!
I'm pretty new to hop growing, and could be mistaken, but I think climate change might be real!

OK so that's just nuts!
They shouldn't be starting to burr for another couple of months at least. Can you post another pic in a couple of weeks please. Crazy stuff.

Re: Hop Growing 2017
If it's making cones now, when would you expect to harvest? End of July? Does seem incredibly early to my ignorant self . I thought flowering is determined by length of sunlight, so would expect it not to even kick in untill well after the end of june

Yeah, I don't know WTF is going on! Pots were left out all winter...no babying whatsoever. My hops are clearly drunk.
It's not fully flowering yet, but we've got a few rogue cones developing, that's for sure.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Wonkey, that plant should be outside. It wants to go up and you're restricting it.

Well here in brighton,, it's been hot in the p-tunnel I think it thinks it's in the usa. Last year the hops were much better from the p-tunnel. Apart from the spider mite having a free lunch.
But I'm training it as best I can and as it's got heat, it's growing. . But the same plant outside, the mother plant! Is only 7ft high.
There's no chance of moving it, the roots are out of the bottom of the pot and in the soil as well as the top growth, being brittle.
Let's see what happens, but I bet the hops are way better than the ones from outside.

Love the pics Stewb!
Being in Yorkshire too I will have to post some of my EKG (cobbs), fuggles and prima donna (first gold) all about to start year 2. All look very strong.
Cascade is but a twig with some green atm but it is early in year 1 and forming roots. I have 4 more prima donna at a very early stage (greenhouse).
Will get some pics on here soon from God's own county.
And btw climate change- it doesn't exist. The planet is simply moving her axis
