Why are they called 'leaf hops'...

Post by guypettigrew » Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:32 am

...when the whole hops used for brewing are dried flowers of the hop plant?

If I find leaves in my bags of hops I always chuck them away!

Thanks.

You're right. Most unlike me.

(although two of the three are more accurate than you might expect...)

Wonderful suggestions, boingy.

Strobile hops takes my fancy. Leaf hops is about as far away from a proper description as you can get

Might as well call them twig hops. Mind you, there are often twigs in the hops as well. They also get chucked out.
