Citra
hi All.
So I jumped on the Seymour Citra gold bandwagon and got some of these in preparation for a mid November brew day with a view to it being fdrinkable around new year. this will make the Christmas period a little lighter as my juløl is rather meaty:9
But, I am not a lover of the typical American c hops. I hate the overpowering that I find cascade gives, Centennial is ok in small doses, Chinook reminds me of cascade.... you see where I am going.
If I wanted a beer to taste of grapefruit juice.... I would drink grapefruit juice:)
So what flavor does Citra give. From its name I get citrus but how strong is it?
thanks'

IS it really like that?
if so it will be ok for the guy I am breing with to have it.. he asked for a citrusy type beer. so this must be right for him right?
Re: Citra
They're quite strong in a grapefruit/melon way to my taste buds. I've put some in an apricot & ginger saison recently but I haven't tasted it yet, it was smelling awesome when I bottled it though (got an exact bottle amount, so no taster). It might work for you if you want to do something along the lines of Bitter & Twisted rather than an in your face APA.
Let's all go home, pull on our gimp suits and enjoy life

Re: Citra
Extremely citrusy, yes, but I honestly don't get much grapefruit. Nowhere near as grapefruity as Cascade, Centennial, etc. I get more like sweet orange, apricot, melon, mango, Wrigley's Juicyfruit gum, LOADS of lemongrass, lime leaves. Much more well-rounded and nuanced than one-trick pony US C-hops.
But Deebee, you need to be brewing Seymour Citra Dark, not Seymour Citra Gold.
