Well, I'd say yes,
but as I got 5kg of 2012 hops not that long ago (simply hops sale, and hop-swapped them with arm chair, hairybiker, keith1664, bigdave). So My freezer is full.

And anyone reading this, can say what you like about old hops, but I dry hopped a brew with 25g of strisslspalt, and Seymour was right.....about them, I've never had anything like them before,

I have got a full on brew on the go (nugget & admiral hops), I have a name for it. which I shall post about soon.

By the way I hope you do find a few members to bulk buy and share a few types, it's not much fun having more than 2kg of 1 type. IMHO

Thinking about it. Will have to see. Might be worth setting up a dedicated forum for hop swaps?

Perhaps to include other items.

I sometimes see a beer kit online that my lhbs doesn't stock, but don't buy it because of the postage charge. It might be that someone fairly local would like a kit as well.

I am seriously thinking about moving to AG and can see a similar situation with 25kg bags of grain.

Obviously both my examples would only apply to people who are local to each other.

Do it, I spent three years umming and ahing over it and it only took 3 brews before I was beating kits in terms of quality. Some brews I do cost me £8 (I buy a 25kg sack of pale malt for £32) and I rarely break £20. The average is £15. A decent kit or a modifying a coopers usually comes in at £20+. So I have better beer and its cheaper.

I'm so sorry - but I only just saw this post :o

Thank you for your encouragement - I'm just awaiting delivery of my wort chiller then I think I'm ready to go.

The reason I just re-read this thread is that I am researching recipes and grains.

In GW's book the recipes state 'Pale malt'
But at one supplier I see they sell Maris Otter pale malt, Golden Promise pale malt and Tipple pale malt and at another supplier they have Crisp pale ale malt. Are all these interchangeable? What's the difference between them? I'm sure that once I select a supplier, I can ask them, but I wouldn't mind an insight before then.

Thanks - as always

Yes they're all interchangeable and if you like a hoppy beer or use some darker malts with them you'll struggle to tell the difference.

Thanks for that - I guess they are brand names or varieties, so nice to know.
Also, I can't believe how off topic I went here

I'd be interested in a Bulk Buy forum could come in handy for hops & specialist grain.

They are different malt varieties, to be honest you would struggle to tell the difference in a beer. Crisp is a maltster and usually supply Maris Otter good quality as well.
