Another option for future ref. is to skim the sludge off the top with a sanitised serving spoon prior to siphoning.

Well it's been in the barrel for a few days now conditioning in the cellar and had a pint tonight- wow! It's fantastic! No force carbonation it just spews fast from the tap- I love those cheap wilcos barrels- it's fitted with a valve but have never had to use it! Tastes amazing!
