Are my freshly picked hops still useable?
Are my freshly picked hops still useable?
On the 29th September I harvested just over 1kg of EKG from my garden. I laid them out to dry in my garage and they are still there. 6 weeks later, are they still useable and if so will they have lost any of their values? They are dry and crunchy to the touch.
Re: Are my freshly picked hops still useable?
Although I'm not an expert, if that have cured shouldn't they be mostly okay? This is more a question than an answer to be honest. Get then in ziplock bags and into the freezer ASAP! Or better yet, vacpack them if you can.
Happy brewing,
Ben.

I'm thinking so Ben. I'll throw them all in a brew tomorrow and see what happens.

Any way of telling? (Other than wasting 50 litres of oatmeal stout)Coffeeuk wrote:

Depends how quickly they dried. If you checked them regularly and after 4 or 5 days they were crisp they'll be fine. Probably too late to ask for a picture.
