Grow Your Own Beer

Post by k1100t » Wed Jun 14, 2017 10:07 am

My wife just sent me a photo of hop plants in Aldi. No idea how much, or what variety.

They also appear to be selling grape vines too...

I'm gobsmacked.

There's a new big ALDI just opened near us, we're just waiting for the initial curious hordes to die down before we have a look. However, I wonder if they're only selling these in stores in the south where you're more likely to have success growing hops.

They're listed on the web site in their 'Fathers' Day' section so in theory should be generally available. There's no supporting information though.

They also don't have an 'in-store' checker (nor does Lidl) so you'd have to phone or call in at your local store to find out. Tend to find availability of their 'promotions' are very hit and miss locally.

Hmmm... looking at the fragility of the plants they are grown from seed, so whether or not you actually get a female is 50/50. If you want a proper plant then only purchase from reputable growers. :(
