I've been using WLP013 London ale yeast for a while now, but have never been able to describe it's unique flavour. OK, it's oakey and the hops come through well, but it also has a tartness that I couldn't describe...
Anyway I just racked a batch of Young's Special Ale to secondary, which I made with a WLP013 - 2L starter. When I stuck my head in the FV to have a look at the trub I got a massive blast of cherries. Just tried a previous batch of pale ale made with this yeast and can't believe I've missed this flavour in the past.
Has anyone else noticed a cherry aroma / flavour with London ale yeast or are my tastebuds skewiff?
WLP013 smells like cherries!

I used this once years ago, I definitely remember getting cherries from it too. Not crazy about that flavour but it's not a bad yeast.
