I'm wanting to start culturing yeast on slants in the near future to get a bit of a yeast lab going. I've been doing lots of reading on the process and what equipment I'll need and so on, and I'm just about ready to take the jump.
Two strains I wanted to keep are WLP810 San Fran Lager and WLP007. I used WLP810 last week in a 10L batch of steam beer, and saved the dregs, maybe 5ml in the vial back in the fridge. It still looks a healthy colour and I'm confident I didn't under pitch as a result. I was wondering if I could save it in that state for a couple more weeks and then slant it? I was planning on doing the same with the WLP007 that I'll be using in a bluebird clone tomorrow.
Will they be ok to leave as is, or should I add some boiled and cooled water or anything to the vial?
Cheers
Adam

Re: Culturing from White Labs dregs
I've just done this with a vial of WLP005 that I used back in march. I pitched and threw the vial back into the fridge intending to use the vial for something else. A couple of weeks ago I finaly got round to buying some conicals and finishing my stirrer project. I dug out the vial, rinsed it out with 100ml of 1.040 wort and away it went, stepped it up a couple of times and its now back in the vial in the fridge.

Cheers for that
Good to hear it was still viable and everything. Think I'll probably go straight from dregs to slant rather than making up a batch and putting it back in the vial, as it'll need a starter when I want to use it anyway. Shouldn't be any longer than a couple more weeks until I can get it slanted I hope!
