Dave, as they were so cheap this was the first time I used 2 packs. Rehydrated them and it took off really quickly.

Same here - interested to hear how 2 packs compares to 1. Another faux lager?

Got this on tap now and it is fantastic. Very fast turn around from FV to keg and performs well as a fake lager. Will definitely be getting more of this yeast.

I've two on at the minute - two packs at 15c in my normal 20 litre batch in a FV and a single pack at 18c in a 15 litre batch fermented under pressure at 20psi in a Corny. Both have stopped at 1.014 - I step mashed both of these split 63c for 45 mins then 72c for 45 mins.

How long have they been at that temp? I mashed at 64/65c for 90mins and had a FG of 1.010 , very easy to drink.

I've just pitched two packs straight in to a 1.047 wort, did a step mash too. will report back when it's done - I'm hoping I can bottle it in about 10 days time and I'll lager the bottles after another week or so at room temp.

My initial fermentation was about the same. I did 2 weeks in the fermentation fridge with a few days cold crash. It got to its peak after 2/3 weeks carbed in the keg.

I bought 4 bottles of Proper Job yesterday, on offer and I want to harvest the yeast, after 2 bottles I wanted to go back to the kolsch. Will definitely repeat this brew.

Really interested in what CML have in store for their lager yeast.

I did a Hockhurz mash on both those Alex. Standard batch was 30 mins @ 63C, 60 mins @ 71C and 10 mins mashout at 78C. Pressure batch was 45 mins @ 63C, 45mins @ 71C and 10 mins mashout at 78C. Both finished at 1.014 - would have liked a touch more attenuation but not a real problem.

Standard batch was 1.044 OG so comes out at 3.9% but it's got great body for that strength while still being crisp and having cracker head retention & lacing. The pressure batch is still coming up to carbonation but seems broadly similar but with a tiny sulfur note if you taste it on its own - not noticeable if you sample the two back to back. It's certainly a belter of a yeast - given the description they shared of the Lager yeast in another thread it sounds like a good candidate in a Festbier style but I don't know that I'd be looking much farther than the Kolsch yeast for a good Pilsner style pint.

10 days for both batches at the relevant fermentation temperature then a couple of days cold crash at around 1C.

I only do 1 stage mash so that was way more complex than mine. I'll aim for around 66/67 next time for a bit more body and head. Once I'm out of Vienna I'm thinking of giving this yeast a go with pils and caragold. Agree with you totally though, cracker of a yeast.

Ha ha, same here! This has been the cheapest yeast I have used and the fastest going from grain to glass. I've filled bottles from the keg and given them to 6 people and they absolutely loved it.
