Servomyces
I've always read that yeast nutrient is unnecessary except in Chris White's book, and he sells the stuff. However, I've got a recipe for an Abbey Quad which includes using servomyces and I see the Maltmiller sells it, which I take as some kind of endorsement. Is it worth using?
Re: Servomyces
If you plan on repitching the yeast, definitely. If not, it comes down to personal choice. It might not be required, depending on your wort, but it doesn't hurt either.

Re: Servomyces
Thanks. I will be repitching (in fact this will be a repitch from a Trippel) so I'll give it a go.
Re: Servomyces
Servomyces is the easiest way to add that little bit of Zinc,

Re: Servomyces
To put this into context, we add 3g of zinc at work for a 20BBL brewlength.
I really wouldn’t worry too much about it. For homebrew, you’re looking at 0.02g for 25L

Re: Servomyces
Zinc is an incredibly important micronutrient for living cells generally, including yeast. Wort can be zinc deficient, potentially making unhealthy yeast stressed and dysfunctional during fermentation. Healthy yeast should have sufficient zinc stored already, but, if repitching, it's best to add a little zinc sulphate, up to 0.03g/L wort is fine. That's about 750mg ZnSO4 in 25L. Alternatively, use complete yeast nutrients, as supplied by White Labs and Wyeast. Servomyces is considered, at least by those selling it, to be a more effective micronutrient delivery system, but it's offered at a much higher price.
