New TC maker

Post by mini-me » Tue Sep 16, 2008 3:12 pm

Hi all,
Decided to join the forum after having a look at the posts on TC and thought I must have a go !
I went out yesterday and came back with 2 demijohns, airlocks, bungs, cider yeast and apple juice from concentrate.

My main question is, when I put the airlock in the bung then fit onto the demijohn do I have to fill airlock with water, if so how much ?

The packet of yeast is 5g and the demijohn is 5 ltrs do I use the whole packet ?

I concur, except I only used 1 teaspoon of yeast, but then again mine was of the champagne variety.

Who the bloody hell . . .
Be so quick as to jump into the seat in front IF she's carrying a heavy bag? I'd gladly give me seat up to her but then what would happen? Sexist pig, that's what. I never even touched the woman.

It seems TC is best with the addition of a bramley or two, some honey plus some strong tea. All very well and good. But how long should it brew for, and at what temperature? Then what should be done with it?

Is it as sensitive as ale? Does it require brewing till its sg is stable?

Shove it all in a demijohn, leave it a week or so, if clear and no bubbles from airlock bottle it with a little priming sugar, easy. :) Plenty of recipes for it floating around but it's really so simple. :)

Yeah parva is right,

dont get concerned with temperature (tho dont stick it outside or anything mad like that), blend you bramleys, stick them in with the honey and tea, give it a week or so( till bubbling stops) rack, top up with apple juice, give another few days then prime and bottle.

then get the lads round, stick on the punk rock and go mental!

Easy there Tiger,

So your fermenting for an inital week with bare minimum ingredients, then adding bramley apples, honey and tea, leave it another week.

Then rack it with apple juice for a few days.

And then prime it again?! With somthing else?

My head has been officially rattled.

Sorry mate,
got excited...
i put the juice, blended (pealed) apples and honey+ tea in at start, use youngs cider yeast. i leave a good spce at the top to foam and go mental... when its calmed down i rack of the bramley pulp that has settle out to the bottom. you can also seive the bramley pulp to get as much juice outta it too. then i top up the vessel (i use a 'liberated' 20ltr mineral water bottle i got fom the water delvery guy at work) with apple juice. leave it for another week till it calms down again. rack again. prime and bottle.

THEN i get the ladz round, put the punk on and go mental... LOL
