Gin kits

Has anyone made a condessa spirit kit(gin).I want to make some sloe gin and thought it might be better to use a gin kit than buying gin(even the cheap stuff cost about £6.50 a bottle,and the kit will make 8 pints for £20).Just not sure how the gin would turn out?

A quick trip to tesco's for more value gin(you dont need to use a quality gin for mixing with sloes as you lose the taste and smell of it anyway )
