pete,
600gr Sugar in 5Lts? That is going to be off the ABV scale! :D
What was your SG?

Hi Walesales,
tbh,
with a large blow off margin in the dj, and stuff to add, i didnt bother. i can work it out from the 600g and the malina ingredients, but i'll wait for fg and see. between 6 and 12 has to be the answer abv.

Thought I’d give this a little bump as I’ve just made another batch. All in demijohns.
First lot I made I followed the recipe on page 1 apart from no scales so guessed at sugar. About 1/3 of a bag, 350g ish.
Starting gravity was 1.064
Bottled it into 1L PET bottles with 1 heaped teaspoon of sugar 8 days after starting.
Final gravity reading at bottling was 1.006.
Into a nice dark cupboard and the strongest of will power to last 10 days before putting a couple in the fridge for a couple of hours to drink in the evening sun.
Super bright colour, good fizz and delicious. Perfect for the summer months.
2 bottles down and a gin or 2 and I had to crawl up the stairs to bed. Potent.

Did the same again but had to use the strawberry Lowicz so decided to do it’s a TC.
Again, rough guess on the sugar but about 200g this time.
Starting gravity - 1.066
Finished gravity - 1.009

Lowicz
4L Asda AJ
3 bagged cup of Yorkshire Tea
2.5g wine yeast
Nutrient
200g ish sugar

A lot more fizzy than the regular raspberryade but I think was too strong alcohol wise as it just overpowered the flavour. Still went down pretty damn well, mind :)

Towicz - Malina syrop owocowy

In asda in the UK I came across this Raspberry drink in the polish (foreign) food aisle.
One of the girls stocking the shelves saw me looking at it and trying to figue out what it was, she told me she loved it so I thought I'd give it a try. It was only £1 a bottle and when I got home I saw it had no preservatives colours or other nasty chemicals in it this combined with the fact I had a spare 5L demi gave me burst of inspiration:

The full 440ml of “Syrop owocowy” ((Raspberry stuff))
4.5L water
400g white sugar
1 flat teaspoon of yeast

Its getting colder in my house so took just over a week to ferment out
Racked and bottled and primed with about 45 grams of sugar.
Delicious after about 2 weeks,
Brilliant colour fizz and taste well worth a go.
ABV about 5.5% (use less sugar if you want it any weaker)

After the great success I had with this recipe I just had to share it
and have since been back to asda and found they have a cherry version muhaha
it will be ready in about a week and will post my verdict here if anyone takes an interest!
That s not a lot of sugar for a 4.5L brew. I would go for 1kg

Be careful with the Sugar Boys and Girls,
I started doing TC`s using 200gr Sugar for 5Lts (following a recipe on here), toned it down to this....
200gr Sugar in 5Lts 8.8%
100gr Sugar in 5Lts 6.3%
50gr Sugar in 5Lts 5.4%
I don`t add any sugar at the start of any TC now. 20Lt brew, 150gr Batch prime Sugar, 5.2%. BLM! :D

1738,
1066 - 1009 should be 7.8%. BLM! :D

I seem to think that BOJ is having a laugh! 1KG Sugar in a DJ and the Hydrometer would be on `Tippy Toes`

Some of JJ Berry's wine recipes used (if my memory is correct) a gallon of water, 1kg + of sugar, some yeast nutrient and bit of flavouring (from rose petals or something similarly unlikely). No wonder he had a red nose!

Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade

Post by MuckyFunster » Sat Jun 30, 2018 12:32 pm

I put this Raspberryade together last night, following the recipe from post #1. It was simple and was honestly starting to bubble within 20 mins of adding the yeast.

Got me thinking though, has anyone tried using Lowicz syrup to make a simple batch of Framboise style beer?

I was thinking could maybe do a gallon using -

1 bottle of Lowicz
400g of wheat spraymalt
10g of Saaz hops
KristallWeizen wheat yeast
And maybe even 50g of spruce tips, seeing as I picked some the other day and they’re currently in my freezer annoying me like they’re “The Tell Tale Heart”

What do y’all reckon?

Update -

Finally got around to this Framboise idea tonight.

500g wheat spraymalt
17g Saaz hops
1 bottle raspberry Lowicz
Sachet KristallWeizen yeast

2 litres of water to the boil, added the 500g of wheat spraymalt and 10g hops, boiled for 30 minutes then added 7g saaz hops, boiled for 30 more minutes, then put pot into sink of cold water.

Once cooled I ran it through a sieve to remove the bits of hops then topped it up with water to 4.1 litres in the DJ, then added in the 400ml bottle of Lowicz.

The yeast came in a 10g sachet and I reckoned this was quite a lot, so I only used half the sachet (about 2.5 teaspoons). Only thing is I didn’t rehydrate it.

Aerated by shaking and popped on the airlock.

OG - 1065.
