Cider Yeast: Dried or Liquid

Post by k1100t » Fri Oct 18, 2013 8:54 am

I'm making some cider next week. I've taken a day off work, have a shed full of apples, a book and have borrowed the Abbey apple press and crusher; I just need some yeast. So which one do I buy...? The cheapo Young's stuff, the slightly more expensive Mangrove Jacks, or splurge on the Wyeast or White Labs liquid stuff...?

Thanks,

Bob.

The middle one.....

Beer people seem to love liquid yeasts, but I suspect that's more about available strains etc.

For meads, liquid yeast can be a bit of a nuisance, hence a lot of us honey bashers prefer dry yeasts (I only use Lalvin strains).

Dunno what'd be the total best, but liquid is 6 times the price of dry.....

Your choice.....

I just leave it to wild yeasts, have had really good results so far!

Thanks for the feedback. I have more than enough apples to make one batch, so might try some dried yeast and leave one fermentor to its own devices to see what happens.

Thanks,

Bob.

Until SWMBO wants another batch exactly like the previous one, then it's frustating to say the least.
I'm just here for the beer.
