Bodger's Graff

Post by CJR » Sun May 04, 2014 7:30 pm

Hey everybody,

So I bodged together a graff with a Wilko Cider kit, 1kg BKE and 1.5kg Pale LME I had lying about today. The question I'm wondering is what yeast should I have used? The kit came with cider yeast and I had some yeast from work (originally Whitbread B) so I pitched that instead.

I'm looking for something like cider but with a bit of body to it. Will this turn out more like ale with apples or cider with body?

Cheers,

CJR

I piched an ale yeast in a graff. I've made a couple, they were pretty good, and you get some nice residual sweetness.

More cider with body and sweetness,

I just made some turbo with Lidl juice, made up about a kilo of pale malt into a wort, and made 20-25 litres, from memory, pitched with SO4, but I think something more estery would be better next time, if I get round to it.

So that's what a graff is then? Cider with malt? I honestly haven't heard of it before, would you put hops in too? I can see me doing this! I have two DJs od TC on the go right now, its the lack of body that puts me off most TCs.

You can put hops in but I decided against it this time around. Maybe when I do one with AJ rather than a cider kit I'll chuck in some hops.

Bottled this Brew 3 days ago. After 14 days in FV still reading 1020, 2 days later still 1020. Added another pack of Yeast, still 1020 5 days later,
so I bottled it.

23Lish brew with water using Whitbread-B from work. Bacchus is very helpful. He holds my pint of the stuff! :D
