Copper Kettle Homebrewing Supplies

Post by floydmeddler » Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:46 pm

Not sure if this supplier has been mentioned yet. Here's the link anyway:

Looks pretty good at a glance. Only thing I noticed was the prices of hops vary considerably. Might place an order today as they have Target hops and 1L bottles of CRS.

Right, have placed an order. Also emailed them to ask if they would be prepared to have the same set up as Thrifty in which the customer can order hops and grain by the gram as their grain seems nicely priced. Mentioned too about free delivery when a certain amount is spent. Have also sent them a link to this thread so they'll be reading... and hopefully replying!

Will keep you updated on my own order.

Nice people. Ian contacted me and said he was happy to send grains and hops by the gram. He also stated that no matter how much you order, delivery cost will never exceed £6.95. Pretty good! Look forward to receiving my order. :-)

Hi everyone.

Floyd, thanks for your enquiry. Your order was dispatched yesterday, but with the New Year and subsequant bank holidays, it may not reach you til Weds or Thursday.

I have capped the postage at a maximum of £6.95 for any weight over 6kg. No matter how much you order, 6Kg to a tonne (or more), stocks permitting of course. Weights under 6Kg are calculated autmatically via the software on the site, and will always ensure you pay the cheapest option available. Prices start at 66p (lagre letter - for some reason, Royal Mail think a bag of yeast is too thick for a normal 1st class stamp) and range through in increments of 250g up to 1Kg, then 1Kg - 2Kg is standard parcels, with weights over 2Kg being sent via 3 day courier (though in truth, the majority of parcels are delivered next day).

I would be more than willing to supply grains in any quantity you may want, or indeed to make up a mash kit for you. Simply use the contact us page on the website, but if you want a rough guide on the prices, then I would work out the grain prices based on the smallest quantity available in the shop, usually 500g. With regards to the hops, I bag them up as soon as the bale is opened, then store them in fridges set to near freezing. I find this helps to prolong the shelf life. The hops are supplied with a zip seal bag for storage once the vac bag is opened. I have also started bagging up the mainstream hops in 200g bags to make them more economical for the customers. If I were to split the 100g or 200g bags down into smaller quantities, then there may be an element of oxidisation that I'd be unwilling to risk.

With regards to the prices of hops, I try out different lines from Brupaks of prepackaged hops so the prices will be much higher, but if a particular hops sells well, then I'll order it by the bale and obviously pass on the savings. This was the case of some Riwaka hops. But unfortunately there must have been a national shortage as virtually my entire stock was snaffled up by a micro.

Many thanks for taking the time to read, and I hope to be of service to you all at some point. If you have any feedback, both positive and negative, then please feel free to use the contact us page on the website. I aways welcome any feedback that helps to maintain customer service levels.

Hi, Looks promising - for those living in the (Mainland) UK...

However I'll be sticking with my current online supplier who offers free P&P to all UK (Inc. NI, Highlands & IoM - but excl. CI) on orders over £65.00.

Shame as it looks like a good range, priced competitively...

Good luck to you CK & all the best for 2011!

Hey Guy.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the free postage over a certain value aspect.

I notice from your signature you're planning the exmoor Gold. I brewed the recipe from the Hop and Grain database and your in for a lovely pint. Mine came out perfect from a corny, but was a little lifeless from a bottle. I'd strongly reccomend kegging it mate, its a cracker.

Thanks for the comments on Exmoor gold, it was a brew recommended to me by a few on here who had brewed it!

noticed that myself (though AFTER ordering them from h&g as thought they wer only supplier #-o and were £6.50 for 100g) - plus both types of styrian goldings (bobek and celeia)

So another store opens online with great prices but less variety or specialism than malt miller or thrifty or barley bottom... Keep wondring how many more low-cost suppliers will open, and can survive???

I have ordered few times hops and yeast. It´s great that if you want, you can order just couple yeasts with letter fee and it wont cost 20£ or more. I have spread the word in both home brew beer forums in Finland, here is some sahti forums too.

I received my first order from Copper Kettle today, only ordered online on Thursday evening so effectively next working day delivery. Everything came really well packed and excellent value, £23 for 25kg Marris Otter and £2 for 100g Wilamette and Bobek is as cheap as you'll get anywhere. Superb value and service and I will definitely be using them again
