Bottled Beer Review site

Post by phatboytall » Thu Jan 06, 2011 11:33 am

Hi,
Firstly apologies if this seems like a huge plug, thats not my intention!:-) I just think life is too short to spend any time drinking bad beer!

I have a site where i review bottled beers, mainly ones readily available in supermarkets. It gets updated pretty much every evening.
http://www.thebeerbunker.co.uk Twitter : @thebeerbunker

No advertising, no links, no commission. All just for the love. No pubs, no days with mates, no politics, just beer after beer.

Check it out and please chip in with your thoughts comments on the beers we review. :-)

Looks good. A lot of work, but someone has to do it! One thing I would love to see on tasting sites like this is the FG of the reviewed beer. Would be a pain in the ass taking a hydro reading every night though so I don't expect anyone to ever do it.

Thats a great shout, i've never thought of that.

Shouldn't be too much bother to get the Hydro out when reviewing (althoguht i always seem to forget to add the ABV!)

Might try and do it for some of the more interesting beers and strong IPA's etc.

Sorry quick dumb question.

Does/would carbonation affect Hydrometer readings? If i put it in a fresh poured fizzy beer would it still work accurately?

Thanks

Usual problem is that bubbles stick to the hydrometer and ruin the reading. If I'm testing a commercial beer for FG I normally have to waste a bit by letting it go flat before measuring it.

Guess that may put you off the idea.

Fill the hydro jar, pop in the hydro and check the next day when flat. Or... spin the hydro? Probably the simplest option.

Or i could just drink it :-)

Might see if i can save the last 1/4th of the bottle and try and fill a hydro tube sufficiently to test.
