I think AG kits would go down a storm personally. There are many beer styles I'd love to try and maybe even try a lager but buying the hops to make one brew is prohibitive as then I'd have half a bag of hops left that I couldn't really use in anything else for instance. A kit that contains exactly the right amount of everything to make 23l would be great and although a little more expensive than buying in bulk it would at least enable me to experiment until I found something I really liked and then ordered the stuff in bulk.

I completely agree with parva.

I emailed Paul before Christmas with a few recipes I was hoping to try out and he got back to me with prices and options catered for each one and I forced my brother into buying one for me. So I would say my experience has been that Paul is already pretty happy to sort people out with personalised recipes but some stock clasics would be great Paul.
Planning - Nothing till next year now!

Fermenting - Bandini Cherrygaarden

Bottle Maturing - Squid IPA, Bandini IPA, Hobgoblin-ish, ESB, Festive Spiced Ale, Bandinigaarden

Drinking - Commercial favourites.

Maybe a sliding scale on carriage charges would be an idea. At the moment (I think :? ) smaller orders cost about £1.90 and then as soon as any weight (malts) are added the charge jumps to about £7.50 and then a wee bit more for heavier orders. Of course I fully understand that you can't be subsidising postage and it helps things at your end if people are encouraged to order reasonable amounts of material in one go but maybe an intermediate charge somewhere in between for smaller amounts would be a help to those who don't brew so regularly and who may only want to order enough for 1 brewday (3-4kg total)? At the moment the £7.50 carriage charge tends to offsets your very good prices on this kind of order size, when compared to other online retailers who have a lower carriage charge but higher ingredient prices. Not complaining though, I have been delighted with your products AND service so far - as you can see from the "advert" in my signature!

I dont subsidise the postage with high prices, the only way could offer this is charge a higher price for the hops and grain. At the moment anything up to 2kg is with the post office at £4.20 than the next jump is £7.80 for up to 24kg, there is nothing in between 2kg and 24kg I can offer at the moment, but im always looking.
I did think of upping the prices and offering free postage on everything, but this is not to everyone taste.

I agree with the Ag Kits, they are a good idea. I do think more hops would be a good idea also.

I was browsing delivery info and wondered if you'd ship (e.g) 32Kg as one parcel for £19:50 or 2 parcels for £9:50 + £4.20. I was wondering if the ordering does that or should people make separate orders before they pay and see the estimated weight?

Yes, I fully agree that subsidising postage via high prices is not a road you want to take. I understand you points on the postage charges and I can also imagine that the strong cardboard cartons you use do not come cheap. I trust you will cintinue to do your best to offer value in terms of delivery costs.

By the way, I voted for "more hops" and in particular I would really like to see some American types on your list. I use Cascade and would also buy Centennial or Amarillo.

Thanks for the latest delivery of supplies which arrived here yesterday. =D>

seeing as you asked, and i don't normally need asking twice for my opinion here goes.

Greater hop choice - several are currently out of stock meaning what remains is quite limited.

Better item descriptions - are grains supplied crushed or whole, some say crushed some don't say anything. What characteristics do the hops / grains / yeast impart? Make it more freindly to bears of little brain such as myself.

List larger quantities where available - protofloc, S04 say larger quantities available. If I'm shopping on line I don't want to have to enquire. list the larger quantities.

A greater range of accessories would be useful.

More AG kits, but look at the pricing, the one you advertise seems very expensive compared to the cost of the compenents, take out the p&p so we can combine postage.

That said, these are all ideas to improve something that is already very good.

AG kits please Paul.
The one you sent this week looks to be first class, I'd love to try different recipies but as a complete novice I don't have the confidence to buy in all the bits 'n bobs yet.

For me the number one, top notch reason for using Barley Bottom is that the hops are great quality and very well priced even after you factor in the delivery. Grain prices are also good until you add the delivery then they become uncompetitive.

Paul, you may find that if you can get your parcel count a bit higher then you can negotiate a better rate for middlin' sized parcels. ATM I get my bulk MO from the local HBS and then I tend to place a £60+ order (=free delivery) with Leyland for the other grains. Then I go back to the LHBS to get the grains I forgot...
