Does anybody know a reliable easy recipie? I promised a friend I would make him some.

Use any recipe you like and add some of this when you chuck your yeast in;davew wrote:Does anybody know a reliable easy recipie? I promised a friend I would make him some.

The second link is more economical if you are doing multiple batches. If it's a one off just use the vial in the first link.
My dad is a celiac, I've made him a few batches and he's had no issues.

Be aware that these products do reduce gluten, but there will still be some left and depending on how sensitive the drinker is it may not be enough. Also be aware that using these products does affect the beer and you'll need to do some recipe adjustments. I have an article due to appear in Zymurgy later in the year that delves into this.UpTheToon wrote:Use any recipe you like and add some of this when you chuck your yeast in;davew wrote:Does anybody know a reliable easy recipie? There are two maltsters, that I know of, who malt actual gluten free grains here in the States. Perhaps if enough people bugged The Maltmiller they might be persuaded to import some.
I'm just here for the beer.

What sort of recipe adjustments are you referencing? I am curious as I have used Clarity Ferm several times now with good results.Rookie wrote:these products does affect the beer and you'll need to do some recipe adjustments. Interesting, I didn't realise it had any material effect on the beer apart from the reduction in gluten. I've never done a side by side comparison but the beers I have used it with have all turned out well.Rookie wrote:Be aware that these products do reduce gluten, but there will still be some left and depending on how sensitive the drinker is it may not be enough. Re: Gluten Free Beer
I was also unaware it had any affect on the beer apart from removing chill haze (what it was designed for). Its true unless you have a lab you will never know how much gluten is reduced but I have read loads of forum posts etc about it and never found anyone saying the coeliac friend has had an issue with beer made using it.

I use it to make beer for my coeliac wife, she's never reacted to anything I've made, and she's sensitive enough that she can get ill via a crumb accidentally transferred from a cafe butter dish

Re: Gluten Free Beer
Yes, you can get good results. I split a batch half with Clarity Ferm and half without and did notice a difference. It wasn't a huge difference, but it was there. I really think I shouldn't get too detailed before the article appears, but afterwards I'll be glad to discuss it.6470zzy wrote:What sort of recipe adjustments are you referencing? Can you elaborate any further as to the recipe adjustments that you were referring to?

I'd go with a higher mash temp and a higher hop rate.6470zzy wrote:Can you elaborate any further as to the recipe adjustments that you were referring to?
