My first AG lager: can I lager in a corny for a few weeks, and then still prime and bottle condition, or will the gas I've had to introduce to keep a seal on the corny mess things up too much?
Option 2: buy a nice brand new, fairly tight sealing bucket, and drop it into there after the diacetyl rest. No tap or fittings, nice and smooth; siphon out in a few weeks and bottle.
I've got a prompt start, just a 24 hour lag at 12C. I'm using Saflager 34/70 (2 packets, rehydrated into 21L of 1.047).
PS I'm planning to reseed with 1/3 packet (3 or 4g) of Gervin, rehydrated, into the priming solution at bottling; does that sound about right?

I lager in cornys but I don't bottle afterwards, just use the keg to serve.
If I was going to bottle then lager in a 25litre water container. Cheap and effective.

EDIT: the seller says they are food grade in a response to a question further down, so I guess that will do... unless anyone knows different?

I use those jerry cans for storing and lagering. They are great and allows me to build up a nice batch of lager for the summer.
When ready I syphon into a Sankey keg, fine with gelatine and force carbonate. Job done.

OK - I've got my 25L water jerry can container, belatedly; that dealer called 'Ashland' on Amazon (see gobuchul's link above) had appalling customer service - don't touch, even with anyone else's barge pole. Long story. Anyway, I got one from the bay...
Do you just leave the lid slightly loose on these for lagering, or fit an airlock in the lid?

Quick question – Why don’t you lager / condition in the corny keg and when it’s ready to drink transfer to bottles? It’s the way I do it with my lagers and I get really good results.

This is how I do it also, I done this with an Oktoberfest with great results, aged/lagered it at 1c for 6 months and then bottled. I lager in the jerry cans as they're cheaper than Sankey kegs. Had 3 off eBay for circa £15. 3 Sankeys would be around £200.
I leave the lid on. You can feel the pressure by squeezing or pushing against the jerry can. I undo the cap slightly to decrease the pressure, over a week after transferring beer into them. Then it's out to the shed to condition. All activity is more or less finished by then. Just keep an eye on the pressure build up for a week or 2.
