Wtf. Curdled beer?

Post by Onthebrew » Sat Mar 11, 2017 7:44 pm

I have no idea what this is or what caused it but would appreciate any advice!

Basically the beer was fine post boil. Went back to it after cooling and was faced with this?

Isn't it just the cold break?

Looks very good hot/cold precipitation of proteins, I got somthing very similar, the first time I used a plate chiller and was recirculating it to get the wort down to 80c for some more hopp additions.

Cheers. Thought it was fecked. This is my 7th brew and have never seen it before. Normally reasonably clear. Lots of late hop pellets so didn't have pump on. Took a while with immersion chiller to get down to 20c.

Did you use whirfloc / protofloc?

i imagine if you usually use the pump that would break it up and it'll settle out flat with the rest of the trub
dazzled, doused in gin..

It is cold break. Next time you brew watch it start to form as you chill. It starts to form at around 35 degrees.

Cheers, yes this was the first time for a while didn't use the pump because of the hop volume.

35 degrees, that's interesting to know, will keep my eye next time I chill without pump!
