edit:
reading the comments someone seems to think that Biofine Clear is banned in europe, so maybe it's a bit different

I'm confused now, that pdf doesn't mention aluminium at all? But silicon dioxide

Re: Biofine
Was about to suggest gelatine, realised that's what they were testing against. Came out good though!
Re: Biofine
Mmm. I normally use gelatine, was curious about this stuff too.
Re: Biofine
From what I can tell is a form of silicon dioxide/silic acid in suspension also known as Kieselsol the same as this https://www.home-brew-hopshop.co.uk/win ... -1850.html
Re: Biofine
Cheers simon!, doing some reading:
Yeast has a negative charge apparently.
Gelatine has a positive charge which can attract yeast.
Interestingly Kieselsol (which you're right seems to be the same stuff as Biofine, as it's silicon dioxide) has a negative charge, so I don't see how that can cause the yeast to drop out - unless there's a different mechanism which causes it to drop out? i could see it working on proteins though.
They mention Kieselsol is often used with Chitosan (which does have a positive charge).
I wouldn't mind getting both Kieselsol & Chitosan now, as maybe some of my issues are also protein haze.
https://winemakermag.com/26-a-clearer-u ... ing-agents is what I was reading.
I just found http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... llons.html
might get some to play with.
Edit: actually reading https://www.home-brew-hopshop.co.uk/win ... -1850.html I might use gelatine and Kieselsol
Also:
"When used with gelatine, the gelatine is added to the wine first, and then 24 to 48 hours later, a very small amount of Kieselsol is added, and should be racked off within 2 weeks. Kieselsol also works with chitosan (see the section on chitosan earlier). "

Re: Biofine
I just ordered some Kieselsol and Gelatine. I'll do what they mention and crash to like 0.5C add gelatin and then leave for ~3 days, then add Kieselsol, I'll try and take some piccys.
